Check out this short documentary from one of the National Science Challenges, Science for Technological Innovation. 📺 Highlighted in the documentary are interviews with researchers, communities, industry and SfTI leaders, who outline the great work that has been supported by the National Science Challenge over the past decade. From the doco: Pauline Harris says "we've seen thousands of human connections made at SfTI events, that bridge the gap between skilled scientists, and the people they ultimately want to help." 🙌
Resourcing relationships as well as research has primed Aotearoa for a flourishing high-tech future. 🌏 In the final months of the Science for Technological National Science Challenge, the SfTI team has been working hard to capture stories and data that allows us to share the lessons learned from this decade-long mission-led experiment. 🔬 ✨ Watch our short documentary to see some of the teams and technologies that have pushed the limits of high-tech science with SfTI support over the years. 🌀 We are so proud to see the power of the diverse and broad networks that our mission-led approach to science has created and how building a sense of community around science has supported innovation. https://lnkd.in/geJ2y9t2 #NZSciChallenges #SfTI MBIE Science Science Media Centre of New Zealand Callaghan Innovation Victoria University of Wellington Auckland University of Technology University of Canterbury Lincoln Agritech Limited University of Otago Lincoln University (NZ) Cawthron Institute Ageing Well - Kia eke kairangi ki te taikaumātuatanga Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities A Better Start National Science Challenge E Tipu e Rea High-Value Nutrition Ko Ngā Kai Whai Painga Our Land and Water National Science Challenge Resilience to Nature's Challenges KiwiNet Wellington UniVentures chaz doherty Te Taka Keegan Jamie Bell Leonie Jones Millan Ruka Richard Green Hēmi Whaanga Grace Brown (nee. #Traveling is one of the most demanding and yet rewarding aspects in #research. This time, heading #north, in #Norway, I could meet the other DARE2CYCLE project partners and have some great discussion about current and future developments in the #circularbioeconomy and #alternativeprotein transition within the #dairy sector.
A couple of weeks ago, the first in-person meeting of the Green ERA-Hub (GEH)-funded DARE2CYCLE project took place in the facilities of NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The project partners had the chance to discuss the preliminary project progress, share views on the future activities as well as visit the advanced labs of the hosting partner. A big thanks goes to the local organizers Volha Shapaval, Boris Zimmermann, Margarita Smirnova, Dana Byrtusová, as well as to the participating partners: Victor Takazi Katayama (Fraunhofer UMSICHT), Joosu Kuivanen (Enifer), Katinka Perrott Arntsen (TINE SA), Miao Guo (King's College London), Piet lens (University of Galway), Carlo Moscariello and Silvio Matassa (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II).

What I love most about what I do: being at the intersection of science and marketability. So many brainiacs are dedicating their skills to solving our problems. The inventions that are being brought to the table (literally) are blowing my mind. But: inventions are not innovations. Ideas are not solutions. Inventions need to be paired with market know-how to create use cases and actual solutions. Then we have an innovation. In order to turn an innovation into a success, what's needed is dash of narrative to make the innovation palatable for consumers. Ag & food are the industry in which the struggle from invention to successful innovation is real. Seafood, neither fished nor farmed, but brewed from cells. Vegetables grown on 6 meter high panels indoors. Food made from carbon in the air. 🤯 While they might sound over-the-top, those are (some) the innovations we need to transition and future-proof our food system. I am delighted that I have the chance to share my view on the pathway from invention to innovation at the TransBIB Learning Lounge. TransBIB is Germany's network of scientific institutions, dedicated to accelerating the industrial bioeconomy. After an introduction by yours truly, Gunnar Mühlstädt (PUEVIT GmbH) and Dr. Cornelius Lahme (BLUU Seafood) will present how they have taken inventions to innovation with their start-ups. You can still sign up (event will be in German) 📅 18.06.2024 🕐 1 -2 pm CET 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eXvT-ejh (Anmeldung) #Innovation #sustainability #Lebensmittel #IndustrielleBioökonomie #TransBIB

I’m really looking forward to working with great start ups and spin outs on nominations for compelling sustainable innovations. The Earthshot Prize will consider solutions which make tangible progress towards one of the five Earthshots. They should be beyond idea stage, have tested their solution in-field or with target audiences, and are at a ‘tipping point’ for scaling their impact within the next five years. The Earthshots are: -Protect and Restore Nature - Clean our Air - Revive our Oceans - Build a Waste-Free World - Fix our Climate If you have a solution that meets these criteria, and is inspiring, inclusive and impactful, please do get in touch. #sustainableinnovation #sustainability
