Abu Dhabi is set to establish a pioneering facility aimed at reclaiming recyclable materials from municipal solid waste, marking a significant milestone in waste management. Developed by Tadweer Group, the greenfield Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is slated to possess a capacity of 1.3 million metric tonnes annually and will be situated within the Al Mafraq industrial area. Encompassing over 90,000 square meters, it will rank among the largest MRFs in the region. The primary objective of this initiative is to gather municipal waste and extract recyclable resources such as metals, plastics, and other materials. 🗑♻ Municipal Solid Waste to Alternative Fuel for Cement Plants The first Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) plant - emiratesRDF in Umm Al Quwain, #UAE established for converting municipal solid waste to RDF for use by the region’s #cement plants, partially replacing use of #gas and #coal. The #RDF has a capacity to process 1,000 tons of household waste a day. Solid waste is shredded, sorted and dried to turn it into RDF, which can serve as an alternative, #low_carbon fuel in cement kilns, partially replacing traditional gas and coal. Implementation of this project could divert up to 90% of household waste from landfill sites. A waste recycling plant is going to be built in Abu Dhabi. This modern facility will take in recyclable materials from household waste and turn them into new products. It'll help create a "closed loop economy" and make the Tadweer Group's goal of recycling 80% of Abu Dhabi's waste by 2030 a reality. The long-term goal is to create raw materials and finished products from the recycled materials, like sustainable aviation fuel. The plant will be in Al Mafraq, about 36 kilometers from the city center. It's expected to process up to 1.3 million tons of waste each year. The facility will cover more than 90,000 square meters, making it one of the biggest processing plants in the area.Also, the new plant is going to help attract local and international investment from the private sector.
