A good read, the messy contextual detailed viewing of social aspects of health can go side by side with the positivist more objective way of viewing health. While making sure that the ease and the straight forward way of interpreting causal relationships do not misinform the holistic understanding of health promotion or population health.

On Election Day, I'm reflecting on the importance of civic participation on building health communities. Please take a look at the blog post authored by Sheri Johnson and me! States continue to change their election laws making it harder to participate in voting. As public health leaders, it is important to understand how these laws are implemented in your state, reflect on how these laws shape who gets to vote, and whose voices get amplified, and in turn, what policies advance health for whom. As public health professionals dedicated to health and racial equity, we have a role in creating a society that makes it possible for our whole community to participate in decisions that shape health and well-being.

Do you work in a state, Tribal, local, or territorial health department in the United States? Participate in the Governmental Public Health Job Task Survey, help strengthen the public health workforce, and get $10 ;) The purpose of the survey is to better understand what tasks people in specific public health jobs do the most and which tasks they believe are the most important to their work. This information will give the workforce, governmental public health leaders, and academic institutions and training programs better insight into what a wide range of governmental public health jobs entail and what might be needed to best support people in these roles. https://lnkd.in/eBv2kFUw Thanks to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), Public Health Accreditation Board, and National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) for supporting this work!

As we end #NationalPublicHealthWeek, we’re contemplating what the future of public health looks like. The future of public health is all about partnering with different sectors and communities who are at the heart of decision-making. The future of public health is all about partnering with communities who are at the heart of decision-making. The future of public health is one rooted in racial justice and health equity. We partnered with the Big Cities Health Coalition to explore strategies that root public health’s practice in racial justice and health equity. In “Centering Racial Justice to Strengthen the Public Health Ecosystem: Lessons from COVID-19,” we challenge the public health field to commit to an ecosystem approach to public health. When I finished my MPH, I knew I'd need to create a home for my academic and professional interests. It took years to determine how I'd organize my ideas and natural disaster to realize there is no time like the present to pursue things I care about. I shifted my consulting work to my nerdy niche areas, and I'm diving into my first research project. Understanding and bridging the gap between public health and local government is something I think about a lot, and I am happy to devote my early morning hours to this work. If you work in local government or public health, please take a few minutes to participate in this survey. I look forward to reporting my findings! #localgovernment #localgov #publichealth #urbanplanning #parksandrec #emergencyservices #publicadmin #publicsafety #survey #research
