The survey BayWa r.e. commissioned of 2,500 business decision makers across Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain and France provides some interesting insights into views following COP28. The survey has been widely reported on in the media, and the majority of those surveyed agree the commitments made at C0P28 - including to triple the capacity of renewables by 2030 - will speed up the transition, albeit there are still significant percentages who are doubtful. When it comes to the many different issues that must be tackled to advance the transition, the single biggest one identified was the phase out of fossil fuels. COP fell short here, and the much called for ‘phase out’ term was left out of the deal in favour of softer language. As I highlighted in my previous post, for the period between 2024 to 2030, we are lacking just over $5 trillion in global investments to propel forward the transition at the pace needed. Whereas the world is poised to invest more than $6 trillion in fossil fuels, based on existing policies, over the same time. Business leaders view national governments as holding the most responsibility for the transition, with additional responsibility on a European-wide level being shared by regional organisations, like the EU, as well as businesses themselves. Overall, the message is one of progress. But it is not happening at the speed required to meet renewable and climate goals. https://lnkd.in/dybF2C9Q

During the recent COP28 UAE #summit approximately 200 nations endorsed an unparalleled agreement aiming to eradicate dependence on #fossilfuels The agreement also urged a threefold increase in global #renewableenergy capacity and a doubling of the average annual rate of #energyefficiency enhancements globally by 2030. The question that lingers is, are we prepared enough to fulfill the obligation made at #cop28uae or will this take another #cop summit to decide on further action in the direction of the same? To source an expert view on the same, I recently on behalf of ET Edge Insights spoke to Anish De, Global Head of Energy & Natural Resources, KPMG KPMG India who opened that "Though the ambition is valid, the readiness is not quite there for a threefold increase in renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency." Being present at the COP 28 Summit himself, Mr. De shared his key takeaways, #india role in global #energytransition, primary challenges for the acceleration of global initiatives toward a #sustainablefuture, and much more. Sounds insightful isn't it? If COP 31 comes to Australia, Adelaide will emerge as the logical venue, given South Australia's status as a renewable energy "Superpower" globally. The region is on track to achieve periods of up to 100% renewable energy by next year, surpassing even "Green Denmark" by five years. Having attended COP 15 in Denmark with a VIP pass-through to the final day, South Australia considers hosting this global event an honour. If Australia secures COP 31, South Australia's initiative for the world's largest Green Hydrogen production facilities, led by the ALP Malinauskas State Government, will be nearing completion in Whyalla. This project will bolster the region's position as a leader in renewable energy. The Eyre Peninsula region has an abundant 2,400km stunning coastline and landmass comparable to the size of the United Kingdom. With high solar penetration levels and consistent wind resources, South Australia's new multi-billion dollar under-construction "Green Spine" 330kV transmission interconnector project will link Victoria and NSW, enhancing the National Grid's capacity. This development will facilitate cost-effective off-peak renewable energy utilization, particularly for Green Hydrogen production, Green Ammonia, and Green Methanol. These alternatives have the potential to save Australia approximately $11bn annually in imported diesel fuel costs, benefitting key sectors like Mining, Transportation, and Farming. Additionally, the green hydrogen production facilities in Whyalla could offer a sustainable solution for the Fertiliser industry, reducing the need for imported products worth over $8bn. Whyalla is destined to become the epicentre of sustainability in the world. It's the gateway city for the Eyre Peninsula, with over 2,400km of stunning coastline and a landmass greater than the whole of the United Kingdom. Whyalla is where the Sea meets the Outback of South Australia, a place where time began. #SouthAustralia #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #Whyalla #Superpower #GreenHydrogen #GreenSteel #Sustainability #Harropfactor #Placemaker #SocialResponsibility

🌍 At COP28, global leaders agreed to transition away from fossil fuels in the energy system in a just, orderly and equitable manner. They also set ambitious targets to triple renewable energy capacity and double the rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030, aiming to accelerate the global shift toward a low-carbon energy system. With COP29 approaching on November 11, the spotlight once again falls on how nations will actualize these commitments. 🔎 In October 2024, at this critical juncture for global energy, both the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) independently released reports calling for an energy transition centered on Affordability, Fairness, Justice, and Inclusivity. 📔 IEA,《Key Policy Design Considerations for Affordable and Fair Transitions》:https://lnkd.in/gD2QWDK6 📙 IRENA, 《A just and inclusive energy transition in emerging markets and developing economies》:https://lnkd.in/gAxbgGCe 📈 My article highlights essential insights from these reports, offering guidance on achieving an just energy transition while moving away from fossil fuels. #COP29 #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #JustTransition #RenewableEnergy #COP28

#COP29 is calling! 🌍 To the skeptics—I truly believe this is where global climate and energy policies take shape. So, if you have a chance to attend, take it. And if you’re in Baku from the 15th, let’s connect! 𝗜’𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝘂 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟱-𝟮𝟬 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, working towards a business-positive sustainability agenda. My focus this year is on three pivotal areas: 1️⃣ 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀: No matter how advanced our technology, it’s people who drive change. Investing in skills is the only way for the green transition. 2️⃣ 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲: To triple renewables, our grids need the capacity to handle such renewables. Storage solutions will be critical allies in making this shift smooth, scalable, and reliable. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹: while the Commissioners-designate are being grilled in the European Parliament, it is our moment to call for investments, fuel innovation, and build a competitive, clean industry. Global cooperation is still possible, and hopefully, the 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘭 can be inspired by this decisive COP. See you in Baku! 🌱🔋🌞
