So you have a great idea for an app but have limited coding skills. What would you do? Well, there have been plenty of coding assistants published recently but I spent the weekend looking at something new - lovable.dev - basically because it doesn't need any specific dev tools to be installed and so I dusted off my old MacBook Air and gave it a go. The premise is that it allows anyone, whether they have technical skills or not, to create products that usually need a whole team of developers and designers. This makes it easier for both beginners and experienced developers to turn their ideas into reality quickly and simply. The platform uses AI to write code based on what users describe. This means you can build and test applications much faster than traditional methods, making it possible to create MVPs in no time. So is it any good? Obviously, when you're using anything with AI generation, the end product is only as good as your ability to feed it with good quality prompts so bear that in mind (sorry). It's also absolutely not a replacement for an experienced development team, nor does it have the fine controls of something like Cursor (which allows you to feed it with coding styles and best practices). What it CAN do however is manage everything from user authentication to data storage, GitHub integration and one-click deployment within a chat interface, for instructions and feedback that the AI uses to version control and adjust code on the fly. Overall it's impressive.
