Software developers, and AI Not long ago, the stereotypical software developer wrote code, debugged, and googled bugs. Now the situation has changed a bit. New AI tools have arrived. In my opinion, at least a few things need to be added to the workflow given earlier: - ChatGPT - reasoning, assistance in writing code, looking for bugs - Perplexity - research, looking for bugs - Github Copilot & Copilot Chat - inline coding assistant, super easy and accessible to use. These are my choices, what do you use? If nothing, you may have a problem in the future... #ai #coding #softwaredevelopment

Let’s talk about copying code. Why is it such a stigma in the tech world? Learning often involves building on existing knowledge. The key is understanding what you’re copying and adapting it to your needs. Let’s shift the focus from copying to creating value."We’ve all been there - staring at a blank screen, doubting our abilities. The tech world loves to glorify the “genius” developer. Truth is, coding is less about innate intelligence and more about problem-solving, persistence, and a willingness to learn. So, to all the aspiring developers out there feeling overwhelmed: You are smart enough. Start small, leverage tools like ChatGPT, and remember, every line of code is a step forward. Let’s redefine success in tech - it’s about progress, not perfection. #coding #developer #impostersyndrome #tech #learnings #growthmindset #copycode

Who Will Survive in the Current IT Industry? 🤔 As coders, we often discuss our roles, especially with tools like ChatGPT and various extensions that can generate code. With these resources available across different IDEs, including Visual Studio and others that provide reliable code based on written problems, the question arises: who will thrive in the future of the IT industry? Additionally, how will university standards meet future criteria for fundamental concepts, like loops and data structures, in a landscape dominated by AI-assisted coding? What challenges will our country face if we don’t adapt and update our educational systems? I’d like to hear your thoughts. #ITIndustry #Coding #AI #FutureOfWork

I just heard a claim that programming has become so "simple" that *anyone* can be a "10x engineer" (whatever that actually means outside of Silicon Valley folklore) just by using GenAI tools. I must respectfully disagree. LLMs and modern frameworks have indeed made coding more accessible, but conflating accessibility with simplicity overlooks the rich complexity that makes software engineering so challenging and rewarding. Kevlin Henney puts it beautifully in his foreword to "Clean Architecture": "Software is recursive and fractal in nature, etched and sketched in code. Everything is details." This fractal nature is precisely what keeps our field endlessly fascinating. Every abstraction we use - every framework or library - is built on layers of intricate details. Sure, you can use React without knowing how the virtual DOM works. You can deploy to the cloud without understanding TCP/IP. But you can only design a truly elegant, efficient and scalable solution if you understand the lower layers. Also, when things go wrong - and they will - it won't be enough to just keep feeding ChatGPT or Copilot with error messages or performance issues. I'm not advocating for gatekeeping. I've seen brilliant developers from all backgrounds, whether they have traditional CS degrees, come from bootcamps, or are entirely self-taught. What sets the great ones apart is their curiosity. They're the ones who ask "why" and "how" and aren't content with just making things work. The idea that programming is now "simple" does a disservice to both aspiring and experienced developers. It sets unrealistic expectations and undervalues the skills and knowledge that great software engineering requires. In an industry where "everything is details", superficial knowledge will only get you so far. #SoftwareEngineering #10xEngineer #SoftwareArchitecture

AI Pair Programming Tools: The Reality Check We Needed! 🤖💡 Today, I stumbled upon a short video from Morten Rand-Hendriksen, and now I’m hooked! • ChatGPT/Bing Chat - Think of them as overconfident junior devs with deep historical knowledge but a shallow grasp of modern standards • GitHub Copilot - It’s like a supercharged and frequently wrong autocomplete—great until it makes an embarrassing error 😅 We should always keep this perspective in mind as we integrate these tools into our workflows . It's a brilliant analogy, and that quick snippet was all it took to make me want to dive deeper and learn the full course https://lnkd.in/ghCh3m3Z #Learning 📘 #ContinuousImprovement 🔄 #Curiosity 🧠 #AIPairProgramming 🤝

🔥 Are we ready for the new era of programming and software development? 🚀 As we move through 2024, it's clear that the landscape is evolving — rapidly. While many of us are celebrating the versatility of programming languages like JavaScript and Python, the integration of AI into our development processes is turning the spotlight away from traditional coding practices. Did you know there’s been an astounding 3,600% increase in content related to AI models like ChatGPT? That’s proof that change is here, and it's not going anywhere. Yet, the industry's response to this transformation has caught my attention. 🚨 As developer activity on platforms like GitHub dips, many in our community are becoming more cautious about sharing code. This isn't just a trend; it's a sign that we need to rethink our approach to collaboration and knowledge sharing. We must embrace these advancements, educate ourselves on AI tools, and find ways to work safely and effectively in a rapidly evolving environment. The rise of AI should not instill fear; rather, it should inspire us to innovate and enhance our skill sets. 💎 Speaking of innovation, have you considered diversifying your investment portfolio? Now's the time to look into Andean Precious Metals (TSX-V: APM | OTCQX: ANPMF), a leader in the precious metals space. The Modern Code Director's Stack - Part 2: Finding My Perfect AI Pair Programmer After yesterday's v0.dev UI prototyping post, let me share my journey finding the right AI coding companion. It's been quite a ride! Started with ChatGPT - mind-blowing at first. Great for problem-solving and explaining concepts, but context switching was killing my flow. Copy-pasting code back and forth felt... clunky. Tried Claude next. Loved the longer context window and more nuanced responses. But still felt like I was coding in a chat app rather than my IDE. Then I discovered Cursor AI. Game. Changer. 🎯 Why it stuck: - Lives right in my VS Code workflow - Understands my entire codebase context - Quick inline suggestions - Smart file navigation - Can explain and modify code in real-time The killer feature? Being able to highlight a chunk of code and say "refactor this to use TypeScript" or "add error handling here" - and watch it transform right there. Tomorrow I'll share my cloud architecture setup! What's your go-to AI coding companion? Still hunting for the perfect one? Give it a try at www.cursor.com #AIprogramming #CursorAI #CodeTools #DeveloperTools #TechStack

Your value depends on how much value you bring to the business 🔥 As a developer with business mind you could be more beneficial rather than super coding skills. #business #softwarebusiness
I don't care if you can code. I do care if you can architect a possible solution via problem-solving, communication and forward-thinking to unlock business value. I can teach you to code. Google can teach you to code. StackOverflow can teach you to code. ChatGPT can teach you to code. Of course you need to be able to code. You are mistaken if you think that is the most important thing. Being a good Software Engineer is much more than your coding ability. Not everyone is able to problem solve in a committed team environment keeping an eye open to future. This is much harder to teach.
