As I contemplated reposting this, I realized the significance of discussing grief in the workplace. Losing someone you interact with daily, suddenly and unexpectedly, is incredibly difficult to process. We spend the majority of our time with colleagues, sometimes more than with our own families. Shannon's passing was a profound shock, and I found myself shedding tears at my desk, trying to carry on with work. This was my first experience of grief at work. I was tasked with organizing grief counselors to come on-site and their presence was pivotal in helping us navigate the complex stages of grief. My interactions with Shannon were always marked by kindness. She made me feel like part of the ATS family from day one, particularly with her love for sharing sweet treats with the team and daily welcoming gestures. I miss our daily interactions, from sharing laughs to small talk about her kids and daily life. These are the moments I miss the most. Grief is a new territory for me, a maze of emotions that demand to be felt and acknowledged. It doesn't adhere to a timeline; reminders can bring the pain rushing back as if it happened yesterday. Working through that week was one of the toughest challenges I've EVER faced. I'm grateful for the time off my workplace provided afterward, allowing me to reset and connect with activities that brought solace. Even now, I'm still processing Shannon's death. To those unexpectedly navigating grief in the workplace, I offer this: take time off, lean on your support network, welcome your feelings and know that ALL your feelings are valid.

We carry "honor tags," each inscribed with the name of an officer who made the ultimate sacrifice the previous year. These tags are carried by our volunteers for hundreds of miles along the Appalachian Trail, symbolizing our collective journey to carry forward the memory of the fallen in a profound act of honor. However, our mission doesn't end with the hike. The ultimate goal is to deliver these honor tags to the next of kin as a tangible reminder of their loved one's valor and sacrifice. Despite our efforts—sending them via agencies, hand-delivering, and even reaching out on social media—connecting these symbols of honor with the families has been challenging. This is where we need your help. We've created a dedicated portal for the next of kin to request their fallen officer's honor tag. But for this to succeed, we need your help to spread the word. There is absolutely no cost involved for the next of kin, not even for shipping. This is made possible through the generous donations of our supporters. The most talented, ethical, brilliant, dedicated employees are sometimes also on the market, job seeking, or have a short-stint or gap in resume because: (pick one or any) ✅ They were a primary caregiver and needed to focus on a loved one (yes, people put loved ones first on occasion, who’d have thunk!?) ✅ They took time off to pursue a certification, education, volunteer, travel, or for a health reason (mind your own business!) ✅ They left a toxic/hostile work environment and bravely chose wellness, dignity, and ethics over complacency (would you want to hire someone without a moral compass?) ✅ They we’re laid off or suffered a lapse in employment due to poor planning, poor management, or company closure (not their fault!) ✅ They are changing industries, careers, coming out of retirement, new path/goals (isn’t growth and change a good thing?!) 🛑Stop judging, making assumptions, narrating your own perception to other people’s circumstances, vision, story and look beyond dates, times, titles. Stop hiring a resume and hire the whole human! Look at accomplishments and skill. The best employees come from all kinds of backgrounds, experiences, tenures, circumstances, and chapters in life. if you were to wonder what veterans who are homeless across our Nations are going to be doing for the holidays while we're out celebrating our freedom, what will they be doing? lying cold shivering wet dying in the streets that they fought for this country for us to survive and our businesses to thrive where we didn't leave our families as they did and come back less than what we left with. how can we ignore this homeless problem for our veterans? how can we ignore the lack of funding for their housing? how could we ignore anything but we do all day everyday for many of us workplace. how many times have you walked by a veteran with a flag on this tent and did something nice for them as a whole? what did you do for a whole block? did you get food and hand it out for him so they could eat? did you take food carts in Vans, wagons or truck? when was the last time you had a food drive and you served the Hungary batches that served to keep you free and protected your families, your business, your lifestyle? do you think freedom is free? you want to disregard humans? I think it's intolerable and I think it's inhumane. that's why I opened my second non-profit dedicated to Veterans homelessness. we have a solution for it and by the way by building them a home, you're also saving yourself, the water pollution and the air pollution and cutting down our Forest to build massive apartment buildings... after watching this video, how can you send your children your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren to war anymore with another Nation? and how can we call ourselves the United States of America when we're not because you can't spell USA without us those and fight and die for your freedom. if you agree with this, please comment... https://lnkd.in/gJc_E_H7
