E-scooters were ‘a worthwhile addition’ to the transport mix… …according to evaluators of the recent trial across the West of England. Here are the headlines👇 🛴 The trial saw 9 million journeys between Oct 2020 and Feb 2023 🛴 E-scooters became a new transport option for those without access to a car or bike AND a better option for many others making shorter journeys 🛴 Users were predominantly younger adults with 3 times more men than women choosing to ride The report authors from University of the West of England conclude there is need to develop infrastructure to fully accommodate 2-wheeled vehicles. This and other measures, such as making helmets more easily available, are required to ensure micro-mobility is attractive to more people. A continuous single yellow or white line along the edge of the carriageway means that vehicles cannot be parked there, but they may stop briefly. Honestly feel like the UK government is terrified of any vehicle that isn't a car or motorcycle. Lots of people are turning to micromobilty because its better and cheaper for them than to own something like an e-scooter than a car. And yet, we seem to have this indefinite e-scooter trial put in place by the government. Companies like Lime and Tier get the rights to insure and rent out scooters to the public but the government doesn't allow a way for it's citizens to do so. There are dangers to driving e-scooters but the same without cars or motorbikes. Without proper rules, licensing, insuring, testing, people are going to be reckless. Regulation will make e-scooters less of a "wild west" as people claim them to be.
