The recent lawsuit that has hampered EV battery recycling operator Li-Cycle plans in Greece, has shown some material challenges in large scale centralized EV battery recycling, namely the cost to scale up thermo-chemical processing plant and machinery. In EV recycling, size it seems, does matter in the opposite direction.
One of Li-Cycle's original strengths is in its ability to automate the complete, zero manual tear down and shredding of used EV batteries, this patented process, however, has the downside where the part of this shredding tech introduces severe contaminant processing at subsequent "downstream" steps, thus making the scale up of thermo-chemical yield of black mass (the end result of the treated EV battery) complicated.
The Hydra SL6 is a modular automated unit that can perform zero manual tear down, recycle and yield metallic ingots from used EV batteries.
When connected to localized solar or wind grid, the Hydra SL6 yields mineral and metal commodity material at low GHG emission levels.
Packaged into self-container shipping ISO containers, each Hydra SL6 can be placed in operation near to EV battery replacement garages, service & repair centers, further lowering transportation expenses for EV owner battery swap-in-swap-out replacement.
The Hydra SL6 can also be reconfigured to convert biomass and plastics-derived waste material to heat & electricity.
