We are proud to share that our pro bono client, Paula Crashley—dental hygienist by day and inventor by night—has received a patent allowance for her innovative dental sharpening tool. This unique device, designed to attach to a motorized handheld device, offers dental professionals a portable and efficient solution to maintain the sharpness of their instruments. We were connected with Paula through Cardozo School of Law's Patent Diversity Project Clinic, an initiative dedicated to increasing the number of U.S. patents issued to women and inventors of color. Director Christian A. Camarce and members of the E-Group drafted and prosecuted Paula’s patent application. This is an exciting milestone for Paula and underscores our firm’s continued commitment to supporting the next generation of diverse inventors. #ProBono

2 practicing gp docs discussing endo: Doc 1: I do probably 99% of my own endo as well...retreats, post removals, etc. I might refer 1-2 cases per year out of 150-200. It's a big part of our production in our office and I enjoy the occasional challenging case. I would rather do endo than class 2 composites. Doc 2: Ditto. Other than placing implants, endo is probably the most profitable part of my practice. I actually sometimes feel guilty charging my standard fee, even on molars, when they're a piece of cake. Just not guilty enough to reduce my fee:) I couldn't imagine sending all this easy money out to someone else.

Please Stop Under-prepping! How many times have you prepped “enough” only to see in your CAD software that there is, in fact, not enough reduction? This can be avoided if you stop under-preparing the teeth and today we are sharing a brilliant solution to this problem: Dr. Mike’s Reverse Preparation Kit. We believe in it so much, we started producing this kit here at DCC. Here is the link to the Webinar and the article in the Dental Economics magazine! https://lnkd.in/et6XhCVt Good luck and good prepping!

“You got to get it down to where the goats can get it.” It’s my favorite piece of litigation advice I’ve received in my career. Juries don’t understand foramina, L5 nerve root compression, nor the mechanics of a laminectomy. Hell, I barely do and I’ve handled more than a hundred cases involving lumbar disc protrusions and herniations. But they understand when you do two things: 1. Show them visually with illustrations/models used as exhibits in video depositions; and 2. Using metaphors (my favorite) Everyone can understand the feeling when their finger gets pinched in a door jamb. They understand how a loose washer can rub on rebar. They understand how a Coke can crushes in a wedge pattern. I’m not saying jurors are dumb. Quite the contrary in my home county. But if you’re talking to them in cold medical jargon, you’re doing it wrong. Break out the visual exhibits and break out the metaphors. Ask the doctor: “we’ve been using a lot of complicated medical terms, but is there a metaphor we could use to help us understand this?” Their answer can be pure gold. You can even turn it into the theme of your trial strategy. You can walk to a door jamb in the courtroom with your finger as the victim, or smash a Coke can in closing if you’re feeling wild. Get it down where the goats can get it. Make it visual. And make it real. (Photo from an orthopedic surgeon deposition this evening)

One of the most common questions that we get from people when they hear what we do is: “What’s the formula that people use to work out the price of practices nowadays?” The implication behind the question is that people like me have a secret handshake mathematical equation that will be accurate when applied to any dental practice in any circumstance across Australia…. As much as I wish this were true, a simple one-size-fits-all formula like this doesn’t exist. It never did. And when you think about it, it is actually amazing that people think it would. Many dentists worldwide aspire to serve the UK dental community, but the complex procedures, stringent requirements, and exorbitant costs pose significant barriers for most international professionals. Given the UK's acute shortage of dental personnel, implementing policies to facilitate the integration of international dentists is crucial to ensuring accessible dental care for all. Strategies such as streamlining the registration process, reducing the cost of re-graduation programs, and recognizing foreign qualifications can help alleviate these hurdles. The current practice of charging over £75,000 for re-graduating already qualified dentists is excessively burdensome and counterproductive. While licensing exams and necessary requirements are reasonable, overly complicated procedures and exorbitant fees create unnecessary obstacles. The UK government must prioritize finding effective solutions to address the dental workforce crisis and ensure that quality dental care is available to all its citizens. #Dentistry #UK
"When will Government begin the critical negotiations on dental contract reform", asks Green co-leader Adrian Ramsay MP. "So no one in the 21st Century has to pull out their own teeth." The PM says he'll work "as quickly as possible". Tell Keir Starmer we need urgency and ambition here. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ea7nuqqQ
