ACJC Reaches New Heights: A Landmark Weekend in our Horse Ownership Journey ACJC will have 4 runners this Friday & Saturday. This including the $5m Group 1 Ladbrokes Australia Cox Plate at Moonee Valley Racing Club: (1) Just Fine will contest the $750000 G2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2) Royal Patronage will contest the $5m Group 1 Cox Plate (3) Osmose will run for the G3 TESIO STAKES (4) New Endeavour in the G3 CRAVEN PLATE In the very short 10 years of horse ownership, having 4 runners racing in the highest levels across VIC & NSW in one weekend is an incredible feat. Following is an assessment of our runners by John Blight part of our ACJC syndicates - John is also Vice Chairman of Moonee Valley Racing Club Chair of the Racing Sub-committee. "Dear All, this weekend is one of the most important racing days on the Racing Victoria and Racing Australia calendars including the WS Cox Plate, undoubtedly Australia’s best race. This year we are most fortunate to have Royal Patronage contest in the race. He’s the outsider of the field but in my opinion he will not finish at the rear. He’s a 2000m horse who will relish a fast pace and will sit in the first four having drawn a favourable barrier. The hardest to beat will be Prognosis, Pride of Jenny and Via Sistina, and then Broadsiding. In an even year the horse that has the best luck in running will win. We are a good $34 chance and I would have an each way bet. To have one runner on the day is amazing but we have 2 more runners... Our best chance is New Endeavour. He was disappointing last start when 7th in the Group 2 Hill Stakes but I’m happy to give him another chance and believe he’s a winning chance in this $750k race. He should be close to fully fit with his grand final only 2 weeks away after Saturday (the $2 million Five Diamonds). Osmose has had two poor runs this campaign but now out to her preferred 2000m she may improve sharply this start. Whilst she may not be a winning chance (in Barrier 12) she could run into a place. Our best chance this weekend though is Just Fine in the $750k Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2500m at Moonee Valley on Friday night. Despite drawing barrier 10 he should get across to sit outside his stable mate Serpentine, who may be the hardest to beat. The favourite Francesco Guardi won the race 2 years ago and is a spruik horse but I’m not convinced as yet that he is back to his form of 2 years ago. I think Just Fine will win on Friday night and then it’s onwards to his grand final in the Melbourne Cup 11 days after this race. How blessed we are to have runners in 4 feature races this weekend. Let’s hope for a good showing by them all. A Cox Plate, however, would be the ultimate prize…it’s the only race I’ve ever wanted to win and I’d trade all my previous success for a win in this race. Here’s hoping for some success over the weekend.” Teresa Poon Aaron Morrison Michael Gidley Gai Waterhouse Racing

Alinghi Red Bull Racing suffers another mast failure days before start of America’s Cup racing https://ift.tt/UeqCw1z The Alinghi Red Bull Racing America's Cup team have suffered a rig failure again as they prepare for the America's Cup. All crew are safe and the boat us undamaged August 20, 2024. Training in Barcelona ahead of the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta. Alinghi Red Bull Racing have today, Tuesday 20 August, suffered a rig failure when out training on their AC75, just two days before the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta is due to get underway. The Swiss-flagged team are scheduled to feature in the first race of the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta against Orient Express Racing Team on Thursday August 22 at 14:00 CET. The incident was confirmed by Alinghi Red Bull Racing in a post on their social media channels. The posts reads: “Today there was a rig failure during the early stage of training on BoatOne. Everybody onboard is safe, and an investigation will be carried out in due course. In the meantime, the team remains fully focused on racing.” TEAM STATEMENT @americascup #AlinghiRedBullRacing #AmericasCup pic.twitter.com/xzgVENaC4q — alinghiredbullracing (@alinghiredbull) August 20, 2024 Of concern to the team will be two key facts. Firstly this is the second significant rig failure Alinghi has experienced this year with a previous mast failure on 13 June 2024. The second factor that will be of concern is the relatively light winds and unremarkable sea state forecast today in Barcelona. These two facts together could indicate some fundamental issue in the teams masts… of course it could also just be bad luck. That the team state they are ‘fully focussed on racing’ is good news and would imply that they do have a spare mast that they can use. Indeed we understand they did have another mast delivered to their base at some point in early August. They will now be hoping that there is no fundamental underlying issue with their mast construction. If you enjoyed this…. Last week's 150th running of the Kentucky Derby had us all on the edge of our seats, with Mystik Dan's breathtaking victory stealing the spotlight and captivating the horse racing world. As expected, social media was buzzing with discussions after that thrilling photo finish, but amidst the excitement, one key element often gets overlooked – the jockeys. Despite hundreds of thousands of posts flooding social media about the Kentucky Derby, only a mere 9,348 mentioned the race's jockeys. While this isn't insignificant and could hold some marketability value, it's surprising how little attention jockeys receive compared to athletes in other sports during their big moments. There's a real opportunity for jockeys to enhance their marketability. Consider this: the horse racing industry is projected to reach a staggering $812.48 billion market size by 2030. With jockeys' unique blend of skills – from understanding horse behavior and psychology, to their athleticism, and the vast resources available in such a large industry, the potential for them to build personal brands is truly fascinating. Even in their current position, jockeys could offer value to brands and potentially provide a significant return on investment as the sport continues to grow. However, any sponsorship arrangement must make sense for both parties, ensuring that the brand's audience aligns with the jockey's fan base. As we celebrate Mystik Dan's victory and the enduring outcome of the 150th Kentucky Derby, it's crucial to highlight these discussions and potential opportunities. With the Preakness Stakes on May 18th marking the next leg of the Triple Crown, all eyes will once again be on Mystik Dan and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr, presenting another chance to make waves in the world of horse racing. #KentuckyDerby #HorseRacing #Marketability #sportsbiz

Templegate’s Newmarket Tote Placepot tips with £150,000 guaranteed PLUS £40 in free bets https://ift.tt/8jVZvxd A huge weekend of flat racing is upon us with Newmarket hosting Guineas weekend! Saturday sees the 2024 running of the 2000 Guineas. And our tipping legend Templegate is back with his placepot picks for the afternoon. Tote welcome offer: Get £40 bonus — claim here* The Placepot is a bet where you select a horse to be placed in the FIRST SIX races of any meeting. You can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your stake. So for staking it’s 2x1x2x1x2x2 which adds up to 16 lines. You can stake what you want upwards from 5p a line. 10p a line is £1.60 with our picks and so on. Provided at least one in each race is placed, we get a payout! NEWMARKET SATURDAY PLACEPOT TIPS LEG 1: Star Guest, Dorothy Lawrence STAR GUEST improved with every run last season, finishing off with back-to-back wins on the July course here. It’s a slight worry that we didn’t see him after July but this trip suits and he should make a nice four-year-old. DOROTHY LAWRENCE has had a run in France and showed lots of zip when placed in Group company last season. She stays and can improve. LEG 2: Summerghand, Aberama Gold, Mums Tipple SUMMERGHAND can win this battle of the golden oldies after looking as good as ever when unlucky on comeback here last time. He tried to pick his way through almost the whole field before going down by just a length. A repeat would take him very close. Ryan Moore takes over on MUMS TIPPLE who was a close second at Kempton and is 5lb lower today. Another veteran, ABERAMA GOLD, was third in that Summerghand race and is shortlisted. LEG 3: Theoryofeverything, Bopedro THEORYOFEVERYTHING and Dutch Decoy are closely matched on their good placed efforts in a hot race here last time and have every chance again. The former just gets the nod because he had to switch at a vital moment which cost him the race. BOPEDRO was less than two lengths away in that race too and isn’t ignored. LEG 4: Mitbaahy, Twilight Calls MITBAAHY likes to come late so will need a little luck but Jamie Spencer is the ideal jockey to get the timing right. He was a good fourth in the Abernant here on comeback and should come on for that run. TWILIGHT CALLS held his own at Group 1 level last season and has winning form over trip and track. He hasn’t won for more than two years but his quality can take him a long way. How to claim.. Tote special offer Visit the Tote website HERE* Register a brand new account using the Promo Code: B10G40 Deposit and place your first racing pools bet of at least £10 on qualifying racing pools Those racing pools markets include: Toteexacta, Totetrifecta, Toteswinger, Totejackpot, Toteplacepot, Toteplacepot7, Totequadpot, Totescoop6, Totewin, Toteplace Once your Qualifying Bet is settled you will receive £20 in free bets to spend on all rac...
