The 2 ‘most common question’ I get from other gym owners when I present at live events is 1. “How can I INCREASE my cash flow?” AND 2. “How can I STOP working so much?” And what I tell them is .. creating a consistent flow of membership sales, so you make more money… IS NOT LUCK Developing and retaining great staff, so you can work less… IS NOT LUCK Both goals require taking a DIFFERENT APPROACH to what 80% of others gym owners do… who are NOT making any MONEY and still working CRAZY HOURS each week so today, I want to share with you the 3 IMPORTANT SHIFTS that I applied in my own gyms to quickly grow past $1million dollars in annual revenue, while only working 2 days per week Let me explain here https://lnkd.in/gp_yDhHH

I am looking for interested Aussies to join the NEW/Old FitnessBiz REX! I say 'old' as we have been NSW-based for 4+ years and then we had a member move to Brisbane, so this year we decided as a group to open this REX nationally and widen the scope to include: studios, small gyms, PT businesses. At this point, we are not inviting online trainers who have a business that is 100% online. We want bricks and mortar business owners. We have a goal to get it to 12-15 REX members across the various business models. The key is that there are no competitors in the same REX so those that are members determine who can join and who cannot - good reason to join early! The current members are 2 PTs; studio/gym owner, performance/strength gym owner and just waiting to hear back on our first Pilates studio owner. The purpose of this REX Roundtable will probably initially be more operational with best practices so it is to help owners grow their business operationally. In addition, we'll develop business strategies and provide education on becoming a better leader. We meet every month for 60-75mins on Zoom - the third Friday of the month at 12pm (NSW time). The agenda is put together by the members based on what ideas they want help with or educational topics. As the REX grows we will work in trios to add greater value for catch-ups between our main Zoom meetings (this will happen around 9 members). I am being very transparent with the investment to join REX. No sales from me: you'll either see the value in joining or won't. The investment to attend your first meeting is 119 and then automatic billing of 59/fortnight. I would ask owners mentally commit to 6 months - six meetings. Then as we do at REX, there is no commitment or contract. Please note - as with all my REXs, there is a 3% increase each year on the 1st of February. If you own one of the following: 👉🏼 A PT studio or PT business 👉🏼 A HIIT studio 👉🏼 A small membership-based gym 👉🏼 A Pilates studio 👉🏼 A CrossFit box Then contact me and let's see if REX is right for you. DM or email me: Justin@REXRoundtables.com. #REXperince #REXers #REXRoundtable

There are a few Operating Models within the gym industry: 1. PT First = You require some amount of private coaching before joining group. 2. Straight to Class = New members can go straight to class (no private training required) 3. Open Gym = Access-based. Come in and do your own thing. For a gym to switch their operating model can be a bold move, and one that truly requires a lot of planning in order to do it right. Unfortunately, most gym owners that do this do so in a moment of emotion or frustration...and, later, regret it. A new gym owner client of mine came to me with this exact scenario. They were a very profitable Straight To Class model, but decided to switch to PT First and things didn't go well. So I'm now tasked with taking them back to a STC model, but we have to pull this band-aid slowly - and we'll start with their pricing. This clip was taken from a recent segment of Live Problem Solving, where I walk you through the exact process I use for solving my gym owners business problems. Top 10 Staffing and Programming Mistakes Gym Owners Make and How to Avoid Them Read this week's blog here: https://lnkd.in/geeGYXsb After three +decades in the fitness industry and countless facility consultations as CEO of ActivSport Advisory, I’ve seen my share of wrong moves or neglectful situations that have led to missed opportunities, lost revenue and unneeded headaches. In my latest blog post, I've identified the most common mistakes that prevent gyms from reaching their full potential. Here’s a quick summation of the top pitfalls and how to avoid them: Staffing Mistakes: 1. Hiring Under-Qualified Staff: Your team's credentials matter. Every customer-facing role needs proper education and training. 2. Neglecting Professional Development: Training shouldn't end after onboarding. Implement structured, ongoing development programs. 3. Misaligning Roles: Stop seeking "unicorn" employees who do everything. Let specialists excel in their areas of expertise. 4. Overlooking Staff Specialization: Encourage trainers to develop unique expertise—it's fertile ground for organic marketing. 5. Misstructuring Compensation: Align pay with business goals and retention metrics to drive desired outcomes. 6. Underestimating Turnover Costs: High turnover disrupts member relationships and drains resources. Invest in retention. Programming Mistakes: 7. Planning Without Strategy: Your programming calendar should align with sales, marketing, and staff development goals. 8. Selling Single Sessions: Switch to comprehensive, time-bound programs for better revenue recognition and client commitment. 9. Limiting to Members Only: Open select programs to non-members to expand your market and create a membership pipeline. 10. Pairing Newcomers with Inexperienced Staff: Trust your seasoned professionals with member onboarding—it's crucial for retention. These mistakes might seem basic, but they're surprisingly common, even in established facilities. The good news? They're all fixable with the right approach and commitment to change. What challenges resonate most with your facility? Let's connect and discuss strategies for building a more profitable and resilient fitness business. #FitnessIndustry #GymManagement #BusinessStrategy #FitnessLeadership #OperationalExcellence

One thing I’ve learned from interacting with fellow gym owners is that for the most part all of us face similar challenges. Here are just a few: - Unresponsive landlords when something in the facility needs fixing - Noise complaints from neighbors about music or dropping weights - Frequent membership holds and cancellations - Difficulty finding coaches available for early mornings and weekends Does any of it sound familiar? I’ve experienced my fair share of these struggles, and I know many of you have too. But here’s the silver lining: we’re not alone. Gym owners worldwide—and likely in your own community—are dealing with the same obstacles. This is why connecting with other gym owners is so important. Sharing ideas, solutions, and lessons learned can save time, energy, and resources while providing invaluable support. Together, we’re all working toward the same mission: helping people lead healthier, fitter, and happier lives. Let’s lean on each other’s strengths and wisdom to grow and thrive—not just as individual businesses, but as a collective. If you need help if getting connected, message me and I'll help you get started. #GymOwner #FitnessIndustry #SmallBusinessSupport #CommunityOverCompetition #FitnessEntrepreneur #GymLife

What I Have Learned So Far by Working in One of the Biggest Commercial Gyms in the UK It's something you may not have expected. I started working in one of the biggest commercial gym chains in the UK early this year. At first, I didn't know what to expect. However, I see some common themes as I slowly enter the groove. Here is the list in no particular order: • Many people come to the gym to socialise rather than workout. • Many are lonely and want to feel part of a common group or club. • The people who workout the hardest are often the most insecure. • Some are addicted to the gym, and the feel good hormones it releases but cannot stop even if it means overtraining and under-recovering (Yup! I have seen people spend over 4 hrs in the gym training non-stop over and over again, sometimes 6 days consecutively). • Some people act like they know it all but never seem to improve and reject any advice even if provided with good intentions, holding themselves back. • Many beginners believe in Personal trainers or people who look good or big blindly without questioning their knowledge and advice. • Many people in the gym genuinely need help but are afraid to ask. • Sometimes, I see people doing random things, and I become speechless 😶. #thegym #gymlessons #healthandfitness #fitnesslifestyle
