Today at Transport Research Arena (TRA) we presented our newly published Staff Working Document (SWD) on the progress of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility #CCAM in Europe. This SWD highlights 10 achievements that are bringing Europe closer to deploying CCAM. While the publication emphasises a strong R&I footprint, the scope of these 10 achievements is broad, covering regulatory, financing, and policy actions, technical standards, infrastructure adaptation, as well as data and connectivity initiatives. #TRA2024 The strategic session "CCAM: what next for new mobility services?" emphasised the co-evolution of technology and social innovation, cross-sector collaboration, governance issues, security and privacy considerations to support new mobility services. Herald Ruijters from EC DG MOVE underlined safety as the main objective of CCAM. CCAM's societal benefits were then brought up as crucial to look into. He also addressed the availability of data for multimodality and the initiative of the European Mobility Data Space. CCAM SRG Chairwoman, Tereza Cizkova, highlighted three important points for CCAM from a national perspective: regulation, innovation, cooperation. CCAM Association Chairman Armin Gräter mentioned that the safety validation approach is the key success factor for European CCAM actors. He also highlighted cooperation with Member States, road authorities, and operators as unique in the world. To break the silos and take the door-to-door perspective, SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking and Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking also joined the debate. The 2Zero Partnership joined forces with ERTRAC - European Road Transport Research Advisory Council and the CCAM Association (Partnership) to call out European decision-makers to be attentive to financial levers appropriate for European research and innovation in the next programme framework. Tools like the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model help foster collaboration and deliver concrete impacts for the benefit of the European economy, environment, and population. The next framework programme must provide the appropriate financial means to reach the policy objectives set for the road transport sector.
