Meet Amerley, a 28-year-old nurse from Ghana Amerley's community lacked access to quality #reproductive healthcare. Women suffered in silence, ashamed to seek help. But she shared her own story of overcoming her health challenges and finding support. She spoke of resilience, hope, and the power of community. Inspired, the #women in her community began sharing their own stories. Together, they demanded better healthcare services, challenged harmful traditions and empowered each other Now, that is the power of #storytelling. It has the ability to spark social change. At Stories for Change Foundation, we are using the power of innovative storytelling like #motionpictures to bring positive change in Africa #StorytellingForChange #WomenEmpowerment

September marks the start of our 2024 Health for Life Challenge! Friendship Bridge serves nearly 35,000 women annually whose access to preventive healthcare is rarely an option. This lack of healthcare only perpetuates the cycle of poverty. To further our mission of creating opportunities that empower Guatemalan women to build a better life, our Health for Life program provides health education and preventive services. We provide culturally-sensitive services through mobile clinics and in-home appointments, led by female medical professionals who travel to the villages where our clients live. Each clinic is staffed with highly-trained professionals fluent in the indigenous languages our clients speak. Last year, we provided health services to nearly 7,000 clients, but we need your help to reach even more as we expand services to Nebaj, in the Guatemalan department of Quiché. Will you support us during the month of September? https://loom.ly/aeL380U #HealthForLife #FriendshipBridge #EmpowerWomen #EliminatePoverty #preventivehealthcare #creatingopportunity #healtheducation

“Women are the ones who do the majority of domestic work, also called family care. Unfortunately, because this work is unpaid, it remains invisible in GDP and in analyses of economic progress." -Aïssata Fall Media can shape discourse around unpaid care work, urging for policies that recognize, reduce, and redistribute essential work. PRB’s Aïssata Fall and our partner CREG Consortium Régional pour la Recherche en Economie Générationnelle are working hard in West Africa to address this important issue that disproportionately affect women. https://bit.ly/3SKMtg5 #unpaidcarework

Today, on #HumanRightsDay, Women in Global Health recognizes a critical issue that continues to go unaddressed: gender-based violence against women health workers. Throughout our 16 Days of Activism campaign, #WomenUnderFire, we’ve highlighted powerful stories of resilience, advocacy, and hope from women health workers: 🔸 Dr Shilpa Drakshi Drakshi (India): Public health advocate addressing systemic challenges, including violence and harassment, faced by women health workers in underserved areas. 🔸 Sabreen Abeedallah (Palestine): SRH leader tackling health challenges in conflict zones. 🔸 Edith Ukumen Chinonye (Nigeria): Nurse-Midwife championing health workers’ rights globally. 🔸 Dr. Mariam Dahir (Somalia): Health systems specialist serving communities amidst conflict. These stories remind us that the fight against gender-based violence is far from over. It demands long-term action, systemic reform, and global solidarity. 💡 Learn more: Read their stories in our special newsletter edition: https://lnkd.in/gUdry_B8 Together, we can ensure women health workers are safe, respected, and their rights upheld. #HumanRightsDay #WomenUnderFire #NoExcuse #16Days

Health is a human right—so why do more than half of the people across sub-Saharan Africa still do not have access to basic health services? "Too many words. Not enough concrete global and national action aligned to realities on the ground, and joined up, collective effort from policymakers to truly leave no one behind. This is the reality today; but it doesn’t have to be the reality tomorrow." Read this powerful piece for the Frontline Health Workers Coalition by Babalwa Mbono, Strategic Projects Officer at mothers2mothers, about why community health workers hold the key health for all: https://buff.ly/3TUVp4f #SafeSupportedHealthWorkers

Encouraging the potential of 'Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers for Women In Healthcare’ as we enter the new week! Last Friday, I was delighted to provide a virtual Goodwill Message to the Women in Healthcare Forum, taking place in collaboration with the Women in Healthcare Network during the Medic West Africa Conference in Lagos on #FrontlineFriday. Under the theme "POW(H)ER CONNECT: Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers," the mutual mission to connect, inform, and inspire women in the healthcare industry is vital, providing a platform for networking, mentorship, education, and advocacy, empowering women to reach their full potential and break down barriers within the field. Women make up 70% of the global health and social workforce, providing essential health services for around 5 billion people worldwide, and according to The Lancet in Nigeria nearly all midwives, 87% of nursing personnel, and 65% of medical doctors are women, yet women’s contributions to health and the health labour market remain markedly undervalued, and they are vastly underrepresented in senior health leadership positions. Women in health tend to be clustered into lower status, low paid, and often unpaid roles. The healthcare development agenda in Nigeria and across Africa must better value women’s contributions to the population's physical, social and mental wellbeing. Alongside this, equity issues pertaining to decent work free from all forms of discrimination is necessary for all United Nations member states to address if the 15 million health worker shortfall to achieve Universal Health Care #UHC is to be redressed in an inclusive and sustainable way. Where Women Lead in Health, Transformation Tends to Follow; I extend a heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Dupe Elebute-Odunsi and all the founding members of the Women in Healthcare Network Nigeria for their dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment to engendering women in the healthcare sector. I wish you all a #HappyNewWeek, may it be filled with productivity and meaningful connections for impact! #WellbeingForAll #WellbeingEconomy #MaternalMonday

Financing women's and children's health in low-income countries isn't just about money. It's about saving lives. Recent evidence shows the power of targeted investments. Here's what really moves the needle: 1. Conditional Cash Transfers 💰 Incentivize health-seeking behaviors 2. Voucher Programs 🎟️ Subsidize care for vulnerable populations 3. Community Health Funds 🏘️ Pool local resources, increase ownership These interventions work. But challenges remain: • Knowledge gaps, particularly regarding interventions targeting adolescents and newborns • Impact of financial interventions on equity for people with disabilities, those less educated, and LGBTIQ+ communities • Weak health systems We can do better. #GlobalHealth #HealthFinancing #EquityInHealthcare #WomensHealth #ChildHealth #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs https://lnkd.in/gw3AMGUC

When women and girls raise their #voices, incredible change happens! From advocating for better healthcare to driving social change, their voices are a force for transformation. 👩⚕️ Why does it matter? 1️⃣ Women are the backbone of families and #communities, and their #perspectives on health, safety, and wellbeing provides crucial insights that shape #policies, support systems, and healthcare solutions. 2️⃣ Inclusive voices = stronger solutions! The health and wellbeing of everyone improve when we listen to the experiences of women and girls. 💪 At White Ribbon Alliance Kenya , we champion equal #representation in decision-making, LISTEN with empathy, and ensure that EVERY woman and girl feels empowered to 🗣️ speak up for her own health and the health of those around her. #EWENE Angela Nguku | United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) | Martha Tali | Judy Kipkenda | Wangare Edith
