*Gushing team shout out incoming* When I started looking for a first role in adland, universally interviewers would ask - "Who would your dream client be?" Fast forward to 2024, and whilst I still have a list of clients and creators I'd love to support - company culture has increasingly become a much bigger motivation. Choosing where to work needs to be so much more than a roster of brands and a big part of launching Supernova was about creating a space where people feel valued and excited to explore new ideas and initiatives. Therefore, with all of this in mind, I wanted to give a HUGE shout out to Bea Greenwood, Matthew Ferguson & Sam Isaacs - who have taken it upon themselves to make life at Atomic London a little bit special. Beyond being three wonderful human beings and excellent at what they do, they also play a huge role in ensuring we collectively take the time to share, learn and celebrate our mutual successes: - Tea at Three, chewing the industry fat with biscuits in hand - Thursday Feasts, exploring some of Farringdon's best eateries - Plus the occasional 'big day out' (so excited for the summer party!) ...you guys rock! So, if you're on the hunt for a first role in adland or simply looking for a change of scene, by all means have a list of dream clients. Do you remember who you were before you became the person you were told you should be? Before the world said, “Act like this,” “Dress like that,” or “Dream smaller.” Back when you were a little more unicorn, a little more mermaid, and a lot less… blend in to the crowd. You used to believe in magic - your magic. You spoke fluent imagination, saw possibilities in everything, and let your weirdness shine without apology. Somewhere along the way, though, society handed you a rulebook: Be practical. Blend in. Don’t make waves (unless you’re a mermaid, of course). But here’s the truth: The world doesn’t need another polished carbon copy. It needs your quirks, your spark, your laugh-out-loud-for-no-reason moments. It needs your authentic, colorful, mythical self. Being authentic isn’t about rebelling for the sake of rebellion. It’s about remembering who you were before the filters and expectations, and daring to bring that person back into the light. It’s about being the unicorn who leaves a trail of glitter wherever they go or the mermaid who dives deep when others stay in shallow waters. We need to stop dimming our magic to fit into molds that were never designed for us. We need to role model unapologetic us-ness. Embrace the whimsy, the wonder, and the beautifully imperfect you. Sometimes I think about my film and TV career like it was a cartoon. It doesn’t feel real that I got to experience things that others told me I was so lucky to have been involved with. I have friends now that work on big movies and TV shows and I think about how lucky they are. I have spent 23 years producing videos, directing artists, brands, businesses and individuals on long and short format content pieces. I have seen this industry grow from shooting on film to digital, from delivering edits on Beta tapes to emailing links. Forty Four isn’t just an agency that pumps out content and slaps it on social media. We’re working to think about your brand and how can we stand out with the custom content, what are we shooting and who is going to see it and why should someone care. I started thinking about the WHY when I was producing and directing music videos and the goal was getting them on Much Music, MTV or CMT… what would make them want to take the music video, and why would people want to watch it? What’s the message the artist was trying to get across in the song, does the video help that and will people care? Today is no different, I don’t shoot automatic…. I come from the days of shooting on film and so I don’t shoot automatic and our work is not stuck on automatic either, we look at all the details, the plans, data, etc. I do miss being a producer and director for TV but I love what we’re able to do with our clients. I love hearing about their stories of why they started, what products and services they offer and how we can help grow their brand or keep their brand fresh in the minds of the followers. I’ve grown with technology, from being worried film was exposed to elements to now files not showing up in the cloud. I’ve always loved B2B, B2C but I’ll always prefer H2H, Human to Human. I’ve got lots of stories about my why and I’d love to hear more about your why! Fun fact about me, I don't have a marketing degree. I went to school for theater, and the skills I learned gave me a competitive edge that I had never expected. First, after auditioning dozens of times, job interviews don't scare me. But more importantly, as a performer, I... ⭐ Analyzed people's motivations and the social tactics they use to achieve their goals. ⭐ Created worlds with my imagination. ⭐ Built immersive sets that transported the actors and audience somewhere else. ⭐ Learned that the show must go on no matter what and come up with a creative solution at a moment's notice. ⭐ Work with a team of people who all have different roles but are equally as important to the production. ⭐ Learn your castmate's track so you can cover them if they are out sick. ...and so much more.
