💡 In 2024, women only represent 29% of the workforce in STEM sectors in Europe (IET - Home). This figure indicates a slight improvement compared to previous years, but it still reflects a significant underrepresentation compared to men. At a more detailed level, the statistics vary between different areas within #STEM. The gender gap is vast in communications technology, where female participation in technical roles is considerably low 📉 Despite these challenges, at #STRADA, we strive to create initiatives where women can boost their confidence and take the place they deserve 💪💜💚 #WomenInSTEM #STRADAWoman

Some seem to be <more equal> then the others 😊. According the Gender Gap Index report, in 2024, the ascent to the C-suite globally is steeped in deeply entrenched inequalities, resulting in an overall –21.5 percentage point drop from the base to the top. While women are close to occupying nearly half of entry-level positions, they fall short of representing just one quarter of C-suite roles. https://lnkd.in/eesWEpv6

The BCS Diversity Report 2024 highlights an ongoing challenge in the tech industry—the under-representation of women. It's encouraging to see organisations like BCS actively addressing this disparity through research and policy recommendations. Encouraging diversity not only leads to more innovative solutions but also creates an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse world we live in. We need to continue pushing for mentorship, sponsorship, and policies that empower women to thrive in tech roles. Change is happening, and it's time we accelerate it!
At BCS, we're committed to addressing the gender imbalance in tech, as highlighted in our 2024 Diversity Report, with a foreword written by Samantha Niblett MP. Women represent only 21% of IT specialists in the UK, with black women making up less than 1% of the profession. We call for collaboration across government, education, and industry to close the gender gap and create more opportunities for women in tech. ❗ Shocking statistics from the ONS via IT Now, the magazine from the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, reveal the concerning gender gap in the UK IT workforce. The number of female IT specialists has seen slow growth over the past 5 years: - 380,000 in 2022 (20%) - 356,000 in 2021 (20%) - 312,000 in 2020 (19%) - 249,000 in 2019 (17%) - 226,000 in 2018 (16%) Female representation in IT also varies by job type, from 1 in 20 IT engineers to 1 in 3 IT project or programme managers. While the recent trend predicts gender parity in 19 years, the longer trend (from 2005 to 2023) suggests it will take around 280 years.😲 These statistics underscore the urgent need for initiatives supporting women in tech. It's crucial for both men and women to work towards increasing female representation in the IT workforce without waiting decades. Let's take action now to create a more inclusive and diverse IT industry! #WomenInTech #GenderDiversity #ITIndustry
