#DidYouKnow early-stage Black-led nonprofits have 24 percent smaller overall revenues and 76 percent less unrestricted net assets than their white counterparts? The funding gap makes it difficult for Black-led organizations to scale essential programs despite greater access to community-driven solutions. Systemic racism and unconscious bias shape philanthropic decisions, leading to fewer funding opportunities—overlooking deep cultural ties, nuanced understanding of community challenges, and effective grassroots strategies. With more unrestricted funding, Black-led nonprofits can cover operational costs, invest in infrastructure, and continue to meet evolving community needs. Equity starts by addressing barriers to access to ensure sustainable and equitable funding for Black-led nonprofits. This week, our Mary M. Jalonick Women's Philanthropy Institute awarded $330,000 to four nonprofit organizations that have made a significant impact throughout North Texas during 2024. In addition to Exodus Ministries, which received the lead grant of $150K, three additional nonprofits each received a grant of $60K, including: Abide Women's Health Services, The Urban Specialists, and Vogel. The Women's Philanthropy Institute was created to help women donors gain a deeper understanding of community needs. Launched by The Dallas Foundation, the initiative empowers women on their philanthropic journeys by connecting them with one another, the communities they aim to support and organizations making a difference. Through WPI, women philanthropists are poised to inspire lasting change in our communities. Read more at https://lnkd.in/gjRwVF5B #HereforGood

Taking an introspective look is always helpful. At Community Solutions, we take pride in knowing that our team is mission-aligned around co-creating change for more equitable communities. But alignment doesn’t eliminate our individual implicit biases. Many organizations in the nonprofit space have commitments to racial equity and justice, but if we don’t regularly create the time and space to do the work to examine and improve our own practices, those commitments can fall short. We highly recommend checking out the Borealis Philanthropy report, which shares stories of equity (and inequity) from the frontlines of nonprofit work: https://buff.ly/4eQ4ZxN #CommunitySolutions #Nonprofit #Introspection

Capacity building isn't just a one-time effort, it's an ongoing arc where foundations and nonprofits can work together through cycles of assessment, implementation, and reassessment. This continuous process allows for adjustments and improvements over time, ensuring that organizations not only survive but thrive. In fact, many foundations are adopting this approach as part of their commitment to trust-based philanthropy. They incorporate feedback loops—mechanisms where nonprofits can provide input and collaborate with funders on improving strategies. This process of continuous learning and adaptation is crucial to maintaining trust and ensuring that capacity-building efforts are responsive to the actual needs of nonprofits. Capacity building is more than just providing resources—it’s about investing in the long-term success and resilience of nonprofits. #CapacityBuilding #Nonprofits #Philanthropy #TrustBasedGiving
