Surrounded by smart, talented, resilient women while also constantly being reminded of the challenges we face in funding and the world at large. We hold this every day. Despite progress, fem-tech remains severely underfunded at below 1%. Sexual health education included. We were selected as one of top 5 candidates to pitch this June 21st to Cap Inclusive and Femtech Canada to pitch Likely Story and improve education for teens. The winner will gain a 10 K prize and earn business support from MaRS Discovery District, The Forum , BDO and others to name a few. We hope to change this statistic and keep building this game to support our future generations. This is not overly sanctimonious statement: We all win and rise no matter who takes the prize. We are in awe of every single pitch-leader raising their voices and doing INCREDIBLE work. Please check out these absolutely inspiring female founders doing mind-blowing stuff to change this statistic alongside us in no particular order: - Latchmi Raghunanan, Ph.D. Maman Biomedical is redefining fertility treatment moving away from needles to gels and patches - Dallas Barnes Reya Health is personalizing contraceptive counselling - Ellie Hong Revival Physiotherapy is dedicated to optimal pelvic floor therapy - Leisa Hirtz is changing our relationship to our periods with a boil-free antibacterial menstrual Bfree Cup These are the leaders we need more of. Just being on a panel alongside these incredible minds and hearts is an honour. While significant investments in female-led AI startups are promising, they can give a misleading sense of rapid progress. The increase in startup investments going to female-founded companies — rising to 15% in 2022 — is largely driven by a few billion-dollar rounds raised by AI companies with female co-founders. (See CrunchBase's latest article on the New Peak : https://lnkd.in/edgx9sr8) Change is happening, and there's still a long way to go. Thank you to Florencia Boronat Roxanne Leduc Randeep Purewal, MBA whose leadership fuels bringing us together and turning DEI into ROI. See you on the 21st!

Meet our Pre-Accelerate Startups, Autumn 2024: Nano-sine Nano-sine is a #HealthTech startup focused on sexual health and wellness. It’s been really interesting to see the debate around Flo’s record $200m funding this week 💰 As a femtech company founded by men, led by men, and funded by men, it’s no surprise that the news that Flo is the first women’s health app to achieve unicorn status has raised concerns about the lack of funding received by women-led businesses. Female-founded startups account for 2% or less of VC funding - making raises such as Grace Beverley’s TALA's recent £5m round all the more important. We were at risk earlier this year of cutting out a huge number of female angel investors with the push to increase the threshold to be a HNWI - and we know that female investors are more likely to invest in female-founded companies. So what does the news from Flo represent? There’s an argument to be made that investors who see health startups such as Flo securing such a significant investment might lead to attitude shifts in the wider market. And we need more money injected into women’s health - so if this is happening, does it really matter who is leading the charge? Is it actually a good thing for men to be engaging in women’s health? Ultimately, the news demonstrates that we still aren’t seeing enough female-founded businesses gaining investment - and that needs to change. But, anything that furthers investigation into women’s health can’t be a bad thing - right? Abbianca Nassar née Makoni wrote a great piece about the debate in UKTN I felt highlighted the debate well 👇

🚀A couple of weeks ago, Flo Health became Europe’s first FemTech unicorn with a $1B valuation!🦄 While this is a huge milestone for women’s health, it’s sparked debate because an all-male team founded the company. Is this a step forward for FemTech or a sign of the gender gap in founders and funding? Some view it as a huge win for women’s health, while others view it as evidence that systemic barriers still exist for female founders. What does everyone think? https://lnkd.in/eYWWT9dd #FemTech #StartupLeadership #DiversityInTech

Recognizing the critical importance of supporting women's health and femtech startups, back in 2019, our team embarked on a mission to provide female founders with the resources they need to thrive and grow their businesses. On top of our content library, job board, list of key events to attend and startup programs to apply, we are now thrilled to announce the launch of our curated list featuring 150+ venture capital funds actively investing in women's health and femtech. Women's health has long been a neglected and underfunded area within the broader landscape of healthcare innovation. From reproductive health to menopause, maternal care to sexual wellness, there is a myriad of unmet needs waiting to be addressed. Venture capital funding plays a pivotal role in fueling innovation and driving growth within the startup ecosystem. By providing financial support, strategic guidance, and access to networks, VC funds enable entrepreneurs to transform their vision into reality. However, access to funding remains a significant challenge for female founders, who often face systemic barriers and biases in the investment landscape. #Femtech is booming! Was a panelist on Women In Bio - Engage. Educate. Empower. focused on women's health and FemTech investment trends. Wonderful to hear from my esteemed panelists and inspiring women Angela Vanscoy Sheila Ann Mikhail and Mitzi Krockover, MD! Also spent a week in Europe and had a chance to meet with Marleen ten Damme kick ass founder of Vi and I can confirm - European #femtech companies are on a roll 💪🏻. Interesting read by Leah Hodgson and key insights from panel: ✨ Femtech funding in Europe is up from 2023 ✨ Numbers heavily skewed by Flo Health Inc. $200mln raise ✨ Investors in Europe like apps, less so biotech and medical devices ✨ Funding of fertility and maternal health, is easier than menopause, uterine health, and urinary health. ✨ Overall we are starting to see more unicorns and successful exits. ✨ Women's health is now the fastest growing area of innovation. Exciting to see progress for Women's health and FemTech! Have a great week 💪🏻🙌🏻! #femtech #femtechfuture #womenshealth #femtechfounders #corporatechampions #ecosysteminnovators #femtechatwork FemTech Future Limited

Companies founded solely by women garnered just 2% of total capital invested in US venture-backed startups in 2023, according to PitchBook’s US female founders dashboard. Female founders in Europe came in slightly lower, at 1.8%. That doesn’t tell the whole story though, as US VC funding for female-founded or cofounded companies secured more capital in 2023 than 2020—marking the third-highest annual level. In PitchBook’s latest All In report, analysts found that while deal count declined more than 25% for female founders in the US in 2023, cumulative VC deal value indicates resilience in the face of prolonged VC concerns. Last year, just 3% of U.S. funding went to startups with solely female founders. When female-led startups receive less funding, it exacerbates the underrepresentation of women in high-growth sectors, leading to fewer diverse innovations and perspectives in the market. It also means missing out on potentially successful and impactful businesses that could contribute significantly to the economy. So how do we fix it? Founding Women was created to make space for successful women to provide mentorship and share insights on navigating the funding landscape. This guidance helps newer founders build stronger pitches and connect with potential investors. By building a community where female founders can collaborate on projects and share business opportunities, we are leveling the playing field.
