General Motors hits the brakes on jobs: a software reboot gone wrong? ⬇ 🚗 GM has announced layoffs affecting 1k salaried employees in its global workforce, hitting the software and services division hard. Around 600 employees at GM’s tech campus near Detroit will be impacted. 💻 The layoffs come as GM aims to "simplify for speed and excellence," prioritizing investments with the greatest impact. The affected division includes teams working on vehicle infotainment, OnStar services, and the Super Cruise driver-assist system. ⚙️ GM has faced software challenges recently, notably with the Chevy Blazer EV, which experienced infotainment and charging issues that led to a stop-sale notice. Though resolved, the incident highlighted the automaker’s ongoing struggles in its push to make its Android-based infotainment a true competitor to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 🛑 The cuts also follow GM’s decision to cancel its Ultra Cruise project, merging it with the Super Cruise team. GM aims to expand its hands-free driving system by 2025, but with Ford’s BlueCruise gaining ground, the road ahead looks competitive. 💬 GM’s software struggles echo similar challenges faced by other automakers, like Volkswagen’s difficulties with its Cariad software unit. It’s clear that the race to develop cutting-edge automotive software is proving tough for many. The question now is whether GM and its peers can overcome these hurdles without stalling innovation! #ev #software #tech #automotive

How many companies will follow…
In the last 48 hours we've seen Nissan cut 9,000 jobs, Stellantis cut jobs (again) to the tune of 1,100 at the Jeep factory in Ohio, Audi planning "thousands" of job cuts and even a Chinese company, Neta, halting production and cutting salaries while the previous social media activity of CEO Zhang Yong has suddenly stopped on Weibo and TikTok. Turns out making...and selling...cars is hard.

Nissan's Nosedive: Can One Person Really Change Everything? 9,000 jobs slashed, over $5B in debt—Nissan is hitting the brakes hard! 🛑 Remember Carlos Ghosn? How much of our lives is destiny, and how much is it about seizing opportunities? One of the first major configurator projects I worked on almost 10 years ago was for the Yamaha T-Max. Looking back, I had no idea how much this project would shape my career. It wasn’t easy, though – we were buried in endless Excel sheets, trying to make sense of the complexity of configurable options. On top of that, our art director had high expectations, and let’s just say the feedback was brutally honest. Every day felt like a test of endurance and creativity. But those challenges were pivotal. After completing the T-Max configurator, I earned a reputation as “the configurator guy,” and new doors started opening – including my first job in China, and later working on one of the first real-time configurators for Mercedes-Benz. That experience always makes me wonder: how much of our lives is shaped by fate, and how much is about the choices we make when faced with challenges? If I hadn’t embraced the struggle of that initial project, would I have ended up where I am today? Maybe it was destiny, or maybe it was about showing up and pushing through, even when it got tough. I’m grateful for the journey and everything I’ve learned along the way. What about you? Was there a project that challenged you but ultimately shaped your career? I’d love to hear your stories. #Throwback #Configurator #CareerJourney #Yamaha #ChallengeAccepted #Opportunity #Innovation #3DModeling #3DVisualization #INDG #Mackevision #AccentureInteractive #MiiD

I found myself at a Volvo Cars dealership yesterday mulling over the options in the hybrid range. It got me thinking. Considering a new job opportunity can feel a lot like test driving a new car. Both experiences involve exploring new possibilities, evaluating fit, and envisioning your future. Here's how they compare: 😎First Impressions Matter: Just like a sleek exterior can catch your eye with a car, a company's branding and reputation can draw you in. But remember, it's what's under the hood that counts – the culture, values, and growth potential. 👌Comfort and Fit: Just as you adjust the seat and mirrors for comfort in a car, assess whether the job aligns with your skills, values, and career aspirations. Can you see yourself thriving in this environment? 👨🏻🏫Exploring Features: During a test drive, you explore the car's features. Similarly, delve into the job's perks, benefits, and growth opportunities. Are there opportunities for professional development and advancement? ⏱️Performance Check: Test driving a car involves gauging its performance on different terrains. Similarly, assess the job's challenges, responsibilities, and how they align with your expertise and career goals. 📈Long-Term Commitment: Just as you consider the long-term reliability of a car, assess the stability and future prospects of the job. Will it provide the security and growth you seek? 📑Feedback Loop: After the test drive, you reflect on the experience and gather feedback. Similarly, seek insights from current or former employees to gain a better understanding of the workplace culture and dynamics. Ultimately, whether it's test driving a car or a job, it's crucial to trust your instincts and gather as much information as possible to make an informed decision. Happy exploring! 🌟 #CareerAdvice #JobSearch #NewOpportunities
