I've been really engrossed in the ever-changing world of corporate leadership, and I recently stumbled upon a great read. It's an article from McKinsey called, "CEO Excellence: How do Leaders Assess Their Own Performance?" There's also a book with the same title, and both are absolute gems. If your reading list is already overflowing, the article does a superb job summing up the book’s key points. This article digs into what goes on in the minds of top executives and explores how they evaluate their own leadership. I found it super insightful — it lines up perfectly with what we often explore in my coaching sessions about the importance of self-awareness in leadership. One of the big themes here is the power of knowing yourself — your strengths and your weaknesses. The best CEOs have this down. They're always on the lookout for candid feedback to help them improve, something I stress a lot in coaching — introspection and honest self-assessment set the foundation for genuine growth. It also talks about the importance of having solid mentors and advisors. For any CEO navigating the complex business landscape, having a go-to person(s) for advice, guidance, and feedback can be incredibly valuable. And then there’s the point about being driven by more than just profit — thriving CEOs are those guided by a purpose and set of values that resonate deeply and are reflected in their leadership every day.
