A team of volunteers from SUEZ UK joined National Trust staff at Studland Heath to remove areas of gorse that threaten biodiversity in key natural habitats. Gorse can become invasive in certain areas, outcompeting other species and disrupting the balance of local ecosystems. By clearing areas of gorse, the National Trust aims to restore natural habitats, which in turn supports a wide range of wildlife. This initiative highlights the role that local businesses can play in environmental conservation. Find out more here: https://ow.ly/BYlX50UsoIW

Australia uses one hand to stroke the koala and the other to smack it across the face. Australia is very, very good at making species go extinct. It is a rather longstanding tradition for us. We are a world leader in global extinctions, and have the highest rate of mammal extinctions in the world. We also have the rare distinction of being one of the few countries to send its most iconic species to the brink of extinction: the koala. New South Wales is clearing 570 football fields of habitat each day. At the same time that it has committed to protecting the koala and also ensuring no new extinctions of other species. In Australia, 33,992 hectares of koala habitat has been approved for clearing since 2012. If you would like to signal your desire to see an end to runaway habitat clearing, you can contact NSW Premier Chris Minns, Environment Minister Penny Sharpe, and/or Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty. Historic stewardship, the largest tribal land return without restrictions: a 31,000 acre land return to the Penobscot Nation in Maine is breaking ground in conservation. Indigenous tribes have historically been good stewards of the land under their control. Studies show that indigenous-managed lands often outperform traditionally protected areas in biodiversity and forest conservation. The goals of this full tribal stewardship are to restore Atlantic salmon habitats and foster regrowth in the forest while the land remains open for public recreation, fishing and hiking.

Creating biodiversity habitats for birdlife and wildlife returns flora. Assistance from Traditional Owners and Torres Strait lslanders Scientists...protecting unique areas is important
A conservation agreement with the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust is seeing Peter Lloyd's goal of protecting koala habitat on a NSW Northern Tablelands property become a reality. Peter is one of the owners of 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢, a 2000 ha property that is co-owned by a number of families in the Armidale region. The Wilderness Company applied for a tender designed to protect important koala habitat and will now receive annual payments to support their conservation efforts. https://lnkd.in/gjc-qDgR #koalaconservation #privatelandconservation

Talking about this year, the theme of Nature Conservation Day 2024 is “Connecting people and plants, and exploring digital innovation in wildlife conservation.” Nature conservation means that we preserve the environment around us and keep it conducive to life. The environment and animals are dependent on each other. This is the reason why the concept of environmental conservation in Indian thinking is as old as the known history of mankind here.... Environmental conservation does not mean only planting trees, but planting the selected sapling at a suitable place and taking care of it until it becomes a tree and starts bearing fruits. If only all the public representatives (ministers, MLAs, leaders) who get their photos clicked in the crowd while planting a sapling and post them, had also taken the responsibility of taking care of it, then the situation would have been different today. #environmentalmanagement #natureconservation #soilconservationday #solidwastemanagement #sbm

Some landowners in NSW are turning their property into an income producing asset - not by developing it - but entering into a partnership with NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust. By doing so, they are helping to protect the valuable biodiversity of our ecosystems. In specific high-priority areas in central and eastern NSW, landholders can enter a fixed price offer, where payments can reach up to $420 per hectare per year.

Discover how citizen conservation is a powerful solution to protect and restore Australia's dwindling biodiversity. Our unique biodiversity, home to 10% of the world's species, is under threat with the fastest declines globally. But there's hope! 🌏🦘 Citizen conservation initiatives, like our Nature Blocks initiative partnered with the Bupa Foundation, are creating wildlife habitat corridors right in the heart of our cities. These initiatives align with the Australian government's Strategy for Nature 2019-2030 and contribute towards many of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Our Nature Blocks initiative has already engaged 72,802 people and created 600 Nature Blocks, improving health and wellbeing. Interested in making a difference? In addition to protecting biodiversity, and ensuring continued conservation of forested areas, and grasslands, conservancies yield significant benefits to their communities especially when they are created in collaboration with the local communities. In this article, "Beyond Wildlife: How Conservancies are Creating a Better Future for Communities", Cecilia Nkini an Associate at Waka Africa gives us a state of conservancies in Kenya. Take a read. https://lnkd.in/dEzvYRug

A Wake-up Call: Slender-billed Curlew Declared Extinct The Slender-billed Curlew, a magnificent bird with a long, slender bill, has been officially declared extinct. This marks a somber moment for conservationists and a stark reminder of the fragile state of our planet's biodiversity. This extinction is a result of various factors, including habitat loss, hunting, and climate change. The loss of this unique species highlights the urgent need for stronger conservation efforts to protect our remaining wildlife. We can make a difference by supporting conservation organizations, advocating for sustainable practices, and raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity. #SlenderBilledCurlew #Extinction #Conservation #Biodiversity #Wildlife

In a recent survey of our conservation implementing partners in 50 countries around the globe, 84% identified the protection of standing forests as a key strategy for mitigating #climatechange. As a leading funder of local and national conservation NGOs in the tropics and subtropics of the Global South, Rainforest Trust works with organizations around the world to create legally recognized, protected or conserved areas for biodiversity conservation, climate stabilization, and people.
