‼️A Matter of Sustainability - A Matter of Urgency‼️ The discuss on sustainability is a global affair. However, it is time to zero in on sustainable action points. One of the major highlights that stood out for me when I attended this year’s AISEN’s 20th anniversary conference is the fact that there is need to take urgent and intentional actions to - ✳️ Future-Proof Education✅ Are we not already doing that❓❓❓ Well, If you are yet to recognize the fact that students have a crucial role to play in driving change, then, you are not yet quite future-proofing education for sustainability. Here are four key action points: ❇️ Empower students to be change-makers. Let their learning involve the development of the skills, knowledge, and mindset to drive positive change. Create opportunities for them to lead projects and teams, create and apply innovative solutions to solve real life problems in the community. ❇️ We need to prioritize the development of skills like: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, emotional intelligence and emotional regulation in our education systems. These are future-ready skills needed to thrive in an uncertain world. ❇️ Sustainability literacy should be an integral part of our learning institutions. Students need to understand the complex relationships between social, economic, and environmental systems. Integrating sustainability literacy into education, will equip students to make informed decisions. ⚠️ The future is uncertain, and students need to be adaptable, resilient, and remain open to lifelong learning. Let’s collaborate to make this practical and together we can see the change we all desire. Why does the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) matter? If you’re not familiar with it, ESDW is a major annual initiative, organised by ESDN - European Sustainable Development Network across Europe that promotes sustainable development and advances the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It brings together thousands of events and initiatives, showcasing the collective impact we can achieve when we collaborate for a sustainable future. I’m proud to be part of SDS4HEI, representing Momentum Educate + Innovate, as we step up to make an impact at the 2024 ESDW.
