The City of Hoboken has published its #ZeroWastePlan!
Our North American office worked with the Center for Zero Waste Design to create and finalize a workable plan for the City of Hoboken; one of the most densely populated municipalities in the United States. Extensive community engagement and robust research were undertaken to ascertain steps to reduce waste to #landfill, increase #circularity, and reduce environmental impact.
"Providing clients with the relevant data and expert advice in crafting policy decisions is one our staples at Eunomia," says Caitlin Harrington-Smith, Consultant and Project Manager at Eunomia. "The eighteen tangible action items included in the plan are building blocks which can bring the city closer to its 2030 & 2050 sustainability goals."
The study investigated Hoboken's waste management practices, which make up over 9 percent of the city's #GHGemissions. Through waste characterization, we learned that organics accounted for the bulk of collected materials, which is also the case for the United States at large.
"Organic waste diversion is gaining priority in the public eye, and Eunomia is well-poised to support governments of all sizes on how to address this waste stream, deliver the best diversion impact, and possibly even reduce costs along the way," adds Sarah Edwards, President of Eunomia North America and Project Director.
