Suminoe Textile of America is a proud sponsor of the Alzheimer's Association. So many people are effected by this disease. While there is no cure for Alzheimer's, there are ways to bring much-needed joy, connection and meaning to a loved one living with Alzheimer's or Dementia. * The Power of Music: Music is powerful. Studies have shown that music may reduce agitation and improve behavioral issues common in the middle stages of Alzheimer's. Even in the disease's late stages, a person may be able to tap a beat or sing lyrics to a song from childhood. Music provides a way to connect, even after verbal communication has become difficult. * Finding Comfort and Companionship: Animal therapy is an accessible and inexpensive practice that provides a variety of behavioral and emotional benefits for people living with dementia. The therapy has been shown to improve mood and facilitate social interaction. It can also have a calming effect that helps with dementia-related behavioral problems and increase physical activity in people living with dementia. The Alzheimer's Association is currently matching donations... so give what you can to alz.org/match2x

On Labor Day - a day to celebrate working folks & our careers - this year as we are launching the John G. Hanney Memorial Alzheimer's Association Fundraiser - I can't help but think about how all those working folks, like us, received the life changing news that their loved one, their colleagues, their friends had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. When John Hanney & I got his news we were devastated, scared, in shock - what do we do now - we were lost. And then we learned some painful facts - there is currently no cure but research is getting closer - there is no effective medication - ass't living & memory care facilities cost a fortune & insurance covers nothing -finding help is very challenging & expensive - all while helplessly watching someone close to you loose everything important to them & watching their caregivers suffer - in summary the effects of Alzheimer's can't be described - the disease must be stopped! The only way to stop this awful disease is with a cure that is found through research that is funded by money - tons of money!! Cancer is no longer a death sentence because of successful research - we must get to the same place with Alzheimer's - our world is not ready for our aging population or the horrors of this disease. It is time to get ready!!! Please - click on this link - dig deep & make a donation - honor John's life & memory - & so many others. Please help save a life today - on our soft launch of this fundraiser we achieved $5630 - Unlimited Priorities matched the first $2500 - lets get to $7500 on this Labor Day so The Hanney Family can match the next $2500. Last year we raised over $25,000 - let's beat that by as Jerry Lewis would say - $1 - just $1 - Please please give what you can & let's create our first survivor - let's spare another family from this devastation - John Hanney would love that - so would I & so would his pups!!!! We must stop this horrible disease!!! https://lnkd.in/e3T84rC2

As we look back on 2024, we’re proud to share the incredible difference the UCLA Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program has made in the lives of patients and caregivers. Their impact is why we are honored to call them one of our beneficiaries. Here are just a few of their remarkable achievements last year: • Over 4,300 patients and caregivers served, providing much-needed education, support, and relief. • Caregivers reported less stress and depression, and patients experienced fewer behavioral symptoms like agitation and apathy. • Expanded reach to 30 new healthcare sites nationwide to bring this life-changing program to more communities. Looking Ahead to 2025 The program aims to: • Care for 1,500 UCLA patients living with dementia. • Grow their team and form new community partnerships to extend their reach. Remember, your donation to Racing to End Alzheimer’s is matched, doubling your impact for families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Hardest and Most Fulfilling Job: Caring for My Mom Last year, my life changed forever when my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Taking care of her has been the hardest and most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. Every day brings new challenges, but also moments of profound new discovery of patience, grace and compassion. Alzheimer’s and elder care are areas that desperately need more support from our healthcare system and benefits from companies. Alzheimer's doesn't just affect the individual diagnosed - it impacts entire families and communities. The emotional, physical, and financial toll on families is immense, and yet, resources and assistance are often limited. We need to do better for our loved ones and for the caregivers who support them. By coming together, we can work towards better support systems, improved care options, and ultimately, a cure. On September 28th, I will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This event is free to join, and they simply ask for donations to help fund research and support services. If this cause speaks to your heart, I would be incredibly grateful for any donation, even $5, to help fund research and find a cure for this devastating disease. Every little bit counts and can make a huge difference. To those in similar situations: you're not alone. To everyone else: your support means more than you know. Let's take steps together to end Alzheimer's. #EndAlzheimers #WalkToEndAlzheimers #Caregiving #Healthcare #Support #AlzheimersAwareness

Down syndrome is the diagnosis. But it’s the related health conditions that come with a diagnosis of DS that are most concerning. Related health conditions like…. - Congenital health defects - Gastrointestinal disorders - Early onset of Alzheimer’s (And these are just a few in a long list.) In the first 9 years of Cal’s life, he experienced 9 significant surgeries. All ranging from issues related to his heart, lungs, spinal cord, and more. As you can imagine, it was tough for him to be a small kid with so many challenges. At DSA, this is why we exist… To advance scientific discoveries through DS research to uncover treatments that improve overall quality of life. But we need your help to make these discoveries possible. Join our community of monthly givers so we can help get treatments faster to the families who need them the most. Your monthly gift of $21 or more will make a lasting difference in the development of treatments and therapies that can absolutely transform the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families. I felt fortunate that I've not known anyone close to me to have suffered from dementia, but given that 1 in 3 people born today will be diagnosed with Alzheimer's at some point in their life, I realised it's more likely that I simply haven't been aware of what people close to me are going through. Alzheimer's disease is a physical illness which eventually causes dementia, and common symptoms include memory problems; difficulty concentrating, planning, and communicating; being confused about time or place; and changes in mood. An estimated 900,000 people are living with dementia in the UK today. As someone with aging parents, uncles, and aunties, I've been more and more worried about what they, and many others around the world could go through. So to help raise awareness and make a difference, I'll be doing a skydive to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society. If you're able to spare some money to donate at the link below, you'll be helping support the millions of people affected by dementia in the UK. No matter how small, it will make a difference. Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity and works towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. Since the start of the initiative in 1979, they have focused on supporting and improving the lives of those living with dementia, but also provide £10 million a year of funding towards research and lead government-targeted campaigns to provide hope for the future. https://lnkd.in/eJQwiS2m
