Our team has been busy with a range of projects – from ongoing K-12 school construction to healthcare, faith-based and community development work. One of our most recent healthcare projects was completed in Akron. Our team provided CMR services for an Akron Children's procedure room and patient therapy space in the Burn Center. The improvements were both functional and aesthetic, aimed at enhancing patient comfort and promoting healing. The project resulted in a more refined therapeutic environment, with the patient therapy space redesigned and equipped to create a gym-like atmosphere. It is always a pleasure to serve Akron Children's and their awesome team. Hasenstab Architects, Inc. #cmr #healthcareconstruction #constructionmanagment

Thrive on Crawford is The NRP Group's first "Health and Housing" partnership in the state of Texas, developed in partnership with JPS Health Network. This community will bring 60 affordable and seven market rate units adjacent to a key site in JPS Health Network's expanded campus to enhance health care services for residents and provide quality housing options near a major Tarrant County employer. "The vision was to partner with JPS Health Network to look at these non-traditional housing partnerships to understand how we can provide more than just affordable housing through additional essential services and access to health care," said Vice President of Development Max Whipple. We are fortunate to work with dedicated partners to bring this development to life: CVS Health, REDSTONE EQUITY PARTNERS LLC, Community Housing Resource Partners, JPMorganChase Watch the full video from our groundbreaking celebration below:

April 17: Is It Fair to All Concerned? --submitted by Ellsworth Brown Is it fair to all concerned? No, this is not about our Rotary Club. Gavin Luter, club member and Director of the University Alliance, and Tim Swadley, Mayor of Stoughton, explained that their combined efforts advanced the Wisconsin Idea as representatives of a program identified as the UniverCity initiative. The UniverCity initiative trades on two assumptions, first that as strong as a college education is, it is inherently still limited, often to whatever a teacher and classroom can provide; and second, cities and towns in Wisconsin have unmet needs—e.g. analysis, ideas, planning—which they can’t afford and for which they do not have the resources to manage themselves. Consultants can provide objective viewpoints, cost analysis, and surveys, for example, and selected groups of students can provide these and other services, advancing community development as well as their own skills and teamwork experience. This arrangement is directed as virtually any project that the community selects, fulfilling assistance in whatever way the client—the town or city—has identified: tourism, parks, roadways and crossings, affordable housing, surveys, health and well-being, solutions to the opioid crisis . . . all ideas can be considered. Rural school districts are essential to community growth. They serve as hubs for education, social interaction, and economic development. We're excited to partner with the STANDISH STERLING COMMUNITY SCHOOLS and FED Design/Builder to transform a former elementary school into the Sunrise Community Resource Center. This project, funded by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, will expand services and programming to promote overall growth and well-being within the community. Last week, Architect Todd Seidell and FED Estimator Chad Carstensen conducted their initial site visit to develop design ideas for expanding public health services at the center. #communitydevelopment #ruraldevelopment #publichealth #Michigan

When you center the needs of those you serve in everything you do.
“Today, ‘trauma-healing opportunities’ increasingly influence how places are designed for many U.S. communities, both urban and rural, according to Elisandra Garcia with national design firm El Dorado. Whether it’s an installation, a landscape, a camp, community center, or even an entire city district, El Dorado’s teams of architects and planners often begin by determining how their work can support healing for young people or families — even neighborhoods — coping with scarring from the ordeals of addiction, for example, or the unintended effects of justice and welfare systems.” Thanks for the short write up on this important topic that bridges across many facets of our diverse practice. We are excited to share another incredible initiative supported by the Oakland County Health Equity Council grants to address the ongoing systemic and racial health inequities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic! This time, we're spotlighting a project that addresses transportation challenges for individuals in Pontiac. Recipient Story: "Our inspiration came from working with Oakland County’s Transportation Taskforce, Dustin McClellan, several other organizations, and SMART. This taskforce focuses on transportation options for individuals with no access or the inability to use public transportation. Thanks to the Health Equity Mini-Grants, we can offer free transportation to qualified Pontiac residents. While we have general funding for Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, and Monroe Counties, this grant specifically targets high-need areas like Pontiac and supports low-income individuals, seniors, and people with disabilities who face transportation barriers." Impact Statement: This project directly addresses the critical transportation needs of Pontiac residents. By providing free rides and mileage reimbursement, we are reducing isolation, enabling access to essential services, and fostering community involvement. The ability to pay drivers ensures continuous mobility for our participants, helping them maintain independence and improve their quality of life. This initiative not only meets immediate needs but also sets the stage for future funding and expanded resource opportunities. Together, we are breaking down barriers and empowering our community to thrive. 🌟 #PontiacCommunityFoundation #OCHECGrants #CommunityImpact #TransportationAccess #HealthEquity Oakland County, Michigan Government

Do you all know what "civic health" is? RWJF's 2024 County Health Rankings is zeroing in on this: "Evidence shows that participating in our communities, whether through volunteering or joining neighborhood groups, strengthens our social connections and sense of belonging which in turn, benefits our physical and mental health" and highlighting the importance of public spaces that facilitate civic engagement and social cohesion. Yet another way that we can plan and design for community health! https://lnkd.in/gtvp7zDB

🎉 Did you know that today is World Creativity and Innovation Day? It's the perfect occasion to celebrate fresh, inventive solutions that foster equity and inclusion in ensuring access to safe, fair, and affordable housing. 🏠 In our upcoming report, "PHA Pathways to Advancing Equity," PAHRC delves into the initiatives of Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) striving to fulfill their commitment to promoting safe, fair, and affordable housing. Through 16 interviews and over 20 case studies, we've discovered a strong dedication among PHAs to enhancing equity within their properties. 🩺 One standout PHA leading the charge is Rutland Housing Authority. Their Support and Service at Home (SASH) program aims to improve health outcomes for all older adults in their community. SASH, initiated by Cathedral Square in Vermont in 2009, offers health and wellness assessments, care plans, coordination, and programs to enable seniors to age in place. Since its implementation, Rutland Housing Authority has witnessed remarkable impacts, including increased vaccination rates, decreased hypertension cases, and even lives saved. Today, let's all take inspiration from Rutland Housing Authority and brainstorm new, creative approaches to address opportunities for community improvement. 👉 Watch for our upcoming report, "PHA Pathways to Advancing Equity," to learn more about the diverse initiatives PHAs are undertaking to promote equity and advance fair, safe, and affordable housing. #WorldCreativityandInnovationDay #EquitableHousing #InnovativeApproaches #PHAInitiatives #WCIW #WCID #Equity #IAmCreative #Research #DataStories

As part of an ongoing and participatory engagement and implementation process, Co-Creating Kensington published the second of three reports today. Co-Creating Kensington: Alignment argues that a model for community revitalization that leads to collective healing and sustained solutions is possible when stakeholders come together with shared resources and when residents retain power and ownership over the planning process and resulting interventions. In a guest commentary published in the Philadelphia Citizen today, Dr. Bill McKinney notes “we are at a critical moment as historic efforts to address Kensington’s challenges are not reaching their potential and are often unraveling due to the complexity and intersectionality of our situation. “It is through trauma-informed, participatory, and comprehensive strategies that are preventative in nature that a path for community healing can emerge and ensure that residents are active co-creators in the future of their neighborhoods.” This second report builds on the first report and is an invitation for government and the private sector to align plans designed for Kensington with the community and through that, a reparative and restorative path for government and private entities to move from short-term solutions to preventative and evidence-based strategies. Co-Creating Kensington has always been and will always be an iterative process focused on learning from the previous step. With a list of suggestions for each of the community’s self-defined priorities and support from government and private entities, we will use the momentum of this report to convene with residents and other stakeholders to co-create solutions for each of the six community-defined priorities: public spaces, community health, investing in human capital, housing stability, public safety, and economic development. To read the report, head to https://lnkd.in/eyura-J6.
