The Norwegian mission to the EU has representatives from nearly all Norwegian ministries. Among other engagements they identify at the earliest stage possible issues related to the EEA and Schengen cooperation that are of political or economic importance to Norway. They safeguard Norwegian interests in negotiations and work closely with the EU institutions. The Mission is also an important center of expertise on EU and EEA affairs. This is some reasons why Asgeir Tomasgard and I met the Counsellor for Energy Ragnar Semundseth to present the NTNU Energy Transition Initiative (NETI) and our aim to provide knowledge based strategic advise to industry and society in the energy transition. Thanks for good discussions and ideas for further collaboration. #energy #ntnugreenshifters #transition #engage #knowledge #research NTNU Energy, NTNU Energy Transition Initiative (NETI), Mission of Norway to the EU

Denmark has committed EUR 5.4 million to help vulnerable Moldovans pay their energy bills ✅ “Denmark condemns Russia’s use of energy as a geopolitical weapon in Moldova. These actions have great effect on the Moldovan people who are facing increased costs for gas and electricity. Denmark will continue to support Moldova’s energy independence and resilience and remain a longstanding partner of Moldova.”, says Denmark’s Ambassador to Moldova, Søren Jensen. 🇩🇰🤝🇲🇩 The support includes compensation for the increased cost of gas and electricity for energy vulnerable Moldovans in the current winter period ❄️⛽️⚡️. Aside from the new commitment to support EVRF, Denmark supports Moldova’s efforts towards increase energy efficiency, a green energy transition and to align the energy sector with EU standards. 🔋🌱 The new assistance complements existing Danish support to Moldova, which amounts to over EUR 30 million. On June 25, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) for the period up to 2030. This is important because the NECP's adoption defines the government's priorities in energy and climate policy, serving as a blueprint for Ukraine's green reconstruction and stimulating international assistance. Ongoing attacks on infrastructure emphasize the need to monitor the Plan's implementation and adapt to changing circumstances. The main goals of the NECP are: - reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 65% compared to 1990 levels; - achieving a 27% share of renewable energy sources in total final energy consumption; - deepening the diversification of energy sources and supply routes - no more than 30% from a single supplier. The Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation recognizes the importance of expanding the impact of alternative energy on climate change, helping to reduce emissions and ensure energy stability. Therefore, we continue to install solar hybrid power plants in schools and hospitals in Ukraine 🇺🇦

„In the geopolitics of the global energy transformation, Kazakhstan’s enormous wind and solar potential – coupled with land availability and rich reserves of critical raw materials – represent a strong strategic advantage. Renewables can supply low-cost power to the growing population, bolster energy security and reduce power imports, help decarbonise industry and transport, and attract foreign investment. For a fossil-dependent economy like Kazakhstan, harnessing these benefits is essential for adapting to the decarbonising global economy and contributing to global climate action.“ 🇰🇿 What makes Kazakhstan an „energy pioneer“ in the geographical context of Central Asia? And what are some of the challenges and difficult political choices to be made in the coming years and decades in order to navigate the energy transition, given the country’s current reliance on fossil fuels? 🌍💡As we near the European Parliament elections on June 9th, this week we shed some light on the future of EU energy policy. Europe faced a perfect storm in 2022 with the invasion of Ukraine disrupting energy supplies, especially from Russia. This crisis forced the EU to balance its renewable energy goals with securing reliable, affordable energy. The upcoming European Commission will chart priorities shaping the continent's energy landscape for years. With the Fit for 55 package aiming for climate neutrality by 2050, these policies will significantly impact member states like Bulgaria. Here's what to expect and how it will affect Bulgaria. For Bulgaria, EU energy policies pose both challenges and opportunities. Transitioning to renewables and reducing emissions demand substantial infrastructure and tech investments. Priorities include decarbonization, renewables deployment, storage expansion, market liberalization, and building renovations. Despite initiatives, Bulgaria remains the EU's most energy-intensive economy. Heavy reliance on coal and nuclear power contributes to high emissions. The National Energy and Climate Plan aims for decarbonization by 2050 but plans to maintain reliance on domestic lignite sources beyond 2050. After the events of 2022 that increased sector revenues and changed market dynamics, 2023 saw a decrease in energy prices and consumption. By the end of 2024, major investments in renewable energy should yield results, despite ongoing unpredictability. The government also focuses on new nuclear power at Kozloduy NPP and Black Sea gas extraction. Bulgaria needs to thoroughly revise its energy strategy, setting bold decarbonization targets, and adapting to new developments. This requires extensive legislative changes. The cohesion policy fund will invest EUR 5.3 billion in Bulgaria’s green transition by 2027, benefiting building energy efficiency and coal-dependent regions. Energy security strategies will likely prompt diversification and investment in renewables. Better data access will aid in planning the transition, while market reforms and grid improvements will support renewable integration. Mitigating the impact of rising energy costs on households is crucial. Enhanced EU funds can support vulnerable groups, while access to the Energy Transformation Fund will finance clean technology projects. Leveraging EU energy diplomacy will strengthen Bulgaria's security and regional cooperation. This is why the next European Commission will play a pivotal role in shaping Europe's energy future. By addressing these priorities, the EU can ensure a sustainable, secure, and socially just transition, benefiting all member states, including Bulgaria.
