Today Paper Moose crosses the threshold into our teenage years, which feels particularly significant given it is the age when Joshua and I first met. What began as a small production company has evolved into a full-service BCorp creative agency, proudly helping fuel the growth of some of Australia's most inspiring businesses. Embarking on the journey of designing a creative agency from first principles wasn’t easy and required creativity, grit, innovation and a willingness to learn from every one of our mistakes. Each challenge we've encountered has been a stepping stone, shaping Paper Moose not into a reflection of an antiquated industry, but into what we believe it should be, one of kindness and good humour (my favourite of our values). Creativity has the potential to transform culture and shape the world for the better. At Paper Moose, we've embraced this vision, striving to create a world where good organisations reign supreme. As I reflect on our journey, I'm filled with gratitude for our team, our partners, and everyone who has been a part of our story and perhaps given us a chance when we were the under Moose in the race. Thank you, Arild Spandow, for highlighting this critical issue. I completely agree with the concerns raised here. The Norwegian government’s increasing tendency to transfer wealth to the public sector is alarming. This approach leads to a larger state and declining private Norwegian ownership. The suggestion to hand over shares to the tax authorities to pay wealth or exit taxes is a clear step towards eroding private ownership. In contrast, countries like the US and the UK foster environments where entrepreneurship and innovation thrive, leading to evolving businesses and stronger market performance. This stark difference highlights the need for Norway to rethink its tax policies to support private value creation and ownership, rather than stifling it. Moreover, the hostility towards capital in Norway might be reflected in the continued decline of the Norwegian krone’s value. As business owners and entrepreneurs are driven to leave the country, we face a “brain drain” that further weakens our economy. It’s crucial for us to create a more favorable climate for private ownership and investment to ensure long-term economic stability and growth.

Earlier this week I attended the yearly confidential advisors summit (Landelijke Vereniging van Vertrouwenspersonen), celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Here is what I take away: ✅ No profession has made promotion faster than the term Vertrouwenspersoon/ Confidential advisor ✅ Society and organisations are mutually responsible for (un)desirable behavior ✅ The willingness to report has increased dramatically over the past years All quite 'positive' outcomes for the profession of confidential advisors, but in a room full of experts we all agreed: Trust is hard to gain and easy to loose (Vertrouwen komt te voet en gaat te paard). I got an "Appeal feeling" on the bus to Norrtälje in Sweden, about our time and historical possibilities. —- Dear friends, In a time of rapid change, we are now facing one of the most central challenges in our society: to both rebuild and renew freedom, community and responsibility. The Nordic personality principle offers us a way forward – a path based on mutual trust, cooperation and a deep respect for each other. In this context, it is inspiring to remind ourselves of an element of the Nordic principle, Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative, which reminds us that every human being has an inherent value and should never treat himself or others merely as a means. We all have a duty to act with humanity and to recognize each other's rights and dignity. It is precisely this perspective that gives us the strength to resist authoritarian and totalitarian regimes that threaten our freedom and our fundamental human rights. We live in a world where we often forget how our actions affect others. It's easy to feel lonely and isolated, but we have the power to change this. By engaging with our communities and taking responsibility for our neighbors, we can create a culture of humanity and support. Let's rediscover together the value of truly and authentically caring for each other. Every small act of kindness, every moment we invest in our neighbors and our community, builds a stronger and more cohesive world. It is in these moments that we shape our identity and show that we are more than just individuals – we are part of something bigger. By standing up for the value and rights of the individual, we can counteract the forces that want to silence us and deny us our humanity. We must be brave enough to speak out, to protect those who are subjected to oppression and to fight for a society where no one is left behind. I invite you all to reflect on how you can contribute to the common good. Every step you take towards increased awareness and responsibility for others is a step towards a more harmonious and sustainable future. Together, we can recreate and renew the Nordic spirit of solidarity and equality, where everyone has a place and where every vote counts. ⚠️ 💸 NO CLIENT LOGOS ON YOUR HOMEPAGE! Who doesn’t love the authority prosthesis of a big brand’s #logo to reference your ability to handle corporate clients in the context of #design or specifically #industrialdesign. Here’s why I have just eliminated ALL logos of brands, that I am or have been working with from my #homepage… 🪦 A graphic design colleague close to a dear friend of mine has just been fined to pay 22.5k€ for copyright violations due to simply displaying clients’ logos, since the author (meaning the actual designer of the logo) had not approved the use. 👩⚖️ Consulted lawyers called it “naive” to use logos without the approval of the logos’ authors – even if your client might have told you, it‘s okay. They say the fine is basically nothing more, than an author’s invoice for usage rights and is legal in this particular case. 🤖 So this morning, I directly switched from using logos to simply naming the clients or moreover just not even mentioning them. I feel like the testimonies speak for themselves and went to “Better safe, than sorry.” Or am I overreacting…? ‘Woven’ We Hear the Sound of the Forest Issue 01 / 2024 Stories help us understand what is possible. They evoke pride and empathy and can help us better understand our neighbors. With time, the stories we tell about ourselves and our communities have the power to shape us. They introduce us to new ideas, challenge unjust systems, and expose us to healthier practices. They can hold institutions and policy makers accountable, capture important histories, and teach new skills. Stories give us hope and when done at the right scale and in the right way, they have the power to activate us. Storytelling is the foundation of life in Southeast Alaska where Lingít, Haida, and Tsimshian communities have honored its significance for over ten thousand years. This is why, when the Sustainable Southeast Partnership (SSP) came together nearly a decade ago, before we could even articulate our mission or values, we agreed that storytelling would be a foundational tenet to our work. For the past decade, we have used solutions storytelling to connect our geographically separated communities and ideologically diverse partners — building a movement of impassioned Southeast Alaskans. As the SSP grew, so grew our investment in storytelling. Without SSP’s growing storytelling team, 'Woven', a long held dream, would never be a reality. This publication was built entirely in-house from the design, to the individual stories, artwork, graphics, and photographs. That authenticity shows across this book from the ways that people share vulnerabilities with us, to the meticulous care with layout. Woven is our love letter to the SSP because as storytellers, we have seen and reported on the positive life-changing impacts of this work for many years. How can iconic brands make a difference in societies?   Working with reputation in an investment company with a consumer and brand focus, I often reflect on the role brands play in addressing societal challenges.   Today, I'm proud of the thoughtful initiative taken by colleagues in one of our portfolio companies when they create true inclusion with their iconic Norwegian Stabburet brand.   In a world where representation matters more than ever, the decision to feature children with diverse looks on Stabburet liver pate products is nothing short of remarkable. This move goes beyond marketing; it's about setting a positive example and fostering a culture of acceptance through 330.000 slices of bread with liver pate every day.   So, what can liver pate teach us about embracing inclusion?
