How do you explain Supply Chain to others!?
Founder of Let's Talk Supply Chain & Award Winning podcaster🎙 Inventor 🎤 Founder and Host of Blended Podcast | The Blended Pledge 🗞 Author "Fundamentals of Sustainable Supply Chains" and Trendsetter
When your package arrives on your doorstep, do you ever think about how it got there? When I was in Colorado, I remembered this quote by Dave Waters 💬 "Supply Chain is like nature, it is all around us." And it's so true. If you don't work in the industry, you might not realize that everything you use, from your morning coffee to your phone, was brought to you through a supply chain. An invisible network of manufacturers and distributers working quietly in the background to make sure products get to and from. It's an extremely complex and essential process that's so easy to overlook ... And just like nature, it's what sustains us. So, happy Friday to all the unsung heroes in supply chain. Thank you for keeping our world moving 🫶🏻 ----------- How do you explain supply chain to others? #supplychain #nature #friday

People Are Lying To You To Try And Sell Their Service FedEx announced their Q2 2025 results on the 19th. It has caused a lot of people to jump all over them as they saw a noticed revenue decline. I've seen post after post from different service providers misrepresenting the results in order to promote their brand. I'm all for competition. And I think that every retailer and eCommerce brand should choose whatever provider (or mix of providers) that best meet the needs of their business. But what I can't stand is people trying to convince you that you should buy their service as they create all kinds of illusions and misconceptions. In tomorrow's DEEPER DIVES (my 1x / wk newsletter), I'm going to give you the real facts about the FedEx results, what it really means, and how it will create even more pressure in a saturated and undifferentiated last mile delivery market. Will the USPS issue peak surcharges? If so, now is usually when it’s announced. But not in 2023. [no USPS peak surcharges] I still don’t get that one. It was easy money. Considering the volume that flows through platforms. Maybe they thought they’d buy business? Then, what … grow revenue per piece? That’s a move reserved for FedEx and UPS. So, back to this peak. The market conditions aren’t too different. [despite what UPS says] The peak period is shorter. So some validity of increased costs. [acute volume spike in a shorter period] UPS has opened the door for higher peak surcharges. [or to issue surcharges at all] But will the USPS walk through it? I can’t see them foregoing that much revenue. [again] But that’s what I thought this time last year. ----- So, what do you think? USPS peak surcharges: Yes or No? #logistics #ecommerce #retailing

Q4 is well underway and peak season is right around the corner. While I technically spent the last peak season at Coldcart, this one will be my first as a leader with something to say. I just celebrated my one year anniversary and the amount I have learned about shipping perishable products in only one year has been surreal! One thing remains the same whether your product spoils or not; creating a solid foundation throughout the first three quarters is the easiest way to set yourself up for success: Labor Management: There is nothing less fun than seeing a huge influx of orders and revenue with no one to fulfill them. Make sure your team has the right expectations and access to extra help when the time comes. Technology: While too much can be overkill, make sure you have secured the right systems for your business. Everyone knows Q4 can be unpredictable; which means your systems need to be configurable and agile to handle the unexpected. Vendor Relationships: Building strong partnerships with vendors is essential. It is likely you are going to have surprises come up and those surprises don't care about legal terms and SLA's. Your partners are going to need to go above and beyond what is expected if your marketing team executes. Carrier Diversification: We all have a favorite, but this is arguably the only time of year where more is merrier. Make sure you have an automated process to find the best carrier for every order and be prepared to pivot towards/away from certain carriers at any given time. Let the data speak for itself. Believe it or not, if you have these four areas covered you are better prepared than most this holiday season! 🚀🎁 #Ecommerce #Fulfillment #HolidaySeason #SupplyChain #Logistics

Dream small? Two of the largest shipping companies in the U.S. - FedEx and UPS - are going big and competing for parcel volume from some of their smallest customers ahead of a challenging holiday season. Basically, the strategy is to gain market share from high and low. And given, both rivals have given discounts and incentives to their largest customers, the chase is now on for smaller customers. We love logistics so much no customer is too small for discounts. Well, that's the sentiment though with ulterior motives. The shipping industry has never really been that great to smaller customers. From high prices to small delivery windows, it hasn't always been clear skies or roads. Both FedEx and UPS are going 'all in' on each other often trying to outbid each other with discounts, which for customers is kind of like Moses parting the Red Sea to ensure a timely delivery. A parcel price war is afoot. This isn't as tasty as a fast food price war, but we'll take it. While the holidays provide shoppers with plenty of discounts, shippers are facing a conundrum. The earlier Thanksgiving this year means a shorter holiday shopping season, leading to increased pressure on carriers to handle more daily shipments. Additionally, the later Thanksgiving date may encourage more in-store shopping. All of that has UPS and FedEx working to balance protecting their profit margins and boosting parcel volume. Flying like an eagle is having shippers for lunch. For all the financial problems at the USPS, the postal service is actually gaining ground in delivering parcels. And, with Amazon and Walmart building their shipping fleets over the years, volume is becoming hard to come by. We'll find out after the holidays whether courting smaller customers pay off. In the meantime, these customers are receiving their gifts early in shipping discounts and incentives https://lnkd.in/guTj8X59 #fedex #ups #usps #shipping #logistics #delivery #holidays #smallbusiness #onlineshopping #retail

Maggie Barnett, Esq., CEO of LVK Logistics, knows that anything and everything can happen during Peak Season. Maggie says redundancy is the name of the game for shippers.
