How to model acid-created wormholes in combination with Fishbones Jetting.
Wormholes and acid may sound a bit disturbing, but it is perfectly logical when you have spent more than a decade enhancing stimulation performance. Tomorrow, we will attend the SPE Norway Subsurface Conference in Bergen. We are really proud to present the SPE-218440 paper, titled "Numerical Modelling of Acid Stimulation Using Needles for Multilateral Fishbone Wells", co-authored with SimWorx Eng. R&D and NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. The objective of the project was to validate a computer model for the creation of wormholes in carbonate formations, occurring when acid is pumped through laterally extended Fishbones needles.
Modeling this complex scenario allows for better prediction of potential production uplift and optimization of acid volumes, and is another step in Fishbones' quest to create safer and more cost-effective oil extraction with lower CO2 emissions. And the wormholes? They are tiny holes and tunnels in the reservoir formation, allowing oil and gas to flow more easily and increase well output.
