The Surfrider Foundation’s Post

Climate Change Doesn’t Care Who Won the Election 🌎 We know that the incoming Trump administration wants to boost offshore drilling and dismantle key environmental agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Should the administration proceed with its plans, the resulting fossil fuel extraction, combined with a lack of environmental and scientific oversight, will accelerate climate change. Surfrider is uniquely positioned to continue advocating for science-based, common-sense climate change policies and implementing hands-on, nature-based solutions through our Climate Action Program that will protect not only our coastal communities but also the future of our nation’s beaches — which we all love and cherish. Your donation today can ensure that we have the resources needed to meet this critical moment in the climate emergency and continue our mantra – “constant pressure, endlessly applied” – to empower our nationwide network of grassroots activists to use the power of nature to protect our beaches and coastal communities from the impacts of climate change and sea level rise. Thank you Surfrider for leading the way. We are proud to be working with you on such an important issue as dealing with 3.6 million pounds of nuclear waste on the shores of San Onofre. We agree the best approach is, “constant pressure, endlessly applied” . That seems to be working for us in the long run, although I worry we are not doing enough in time to prevent a disaster from taking place right where it sits, out in the open, exposed to the weather and accessible to those who would do us harm. Here is a 90 second trailer for a recent documentary about a12 year retrospect on the subject from the activists point of view, SanOnofreSyndrome.com It all comes down to the containment system that SCE selected when they thought Yucca Mountain would be available as a permanent repository. The thin metal canisters were only intended to last 20 years, and some of them are already 17 years in service. This is not a Pro or Anti-nuke question. It is a fact that if we do nothing, we are doomed, all of us together. So let's solve this, all together, before it is too late. It all starts with raising awareness NOW.

We’re chopping down mountains to make sure the ocean doesn’t reach us, but ironically, cutting them down might just be making the ocean level rise even more. ( THAT'S HOW RIPPLES EXIST )
