🧾 How does a longstanding philanthropic institution define #generosity and how might the "every day donor" define generosity?
🏛️ How might the US tax code define #philanthropy and what does that have to do with generosity?
📊 Why are philanthropy dollars up while donor counts are down?
❓ Do fewer Americans give? Or is it just that many are giving in non-traditional ways that aren't tracked, reported, or even occurring in the 501(c)3 sector?
💡 Join us on December 2nd to find out answers to many of these questions and learn what The Chronicle of Philanthropy described as a report "that could have a similar impact" to The Filer Commission.
In 2016, some of the brightest minds in our sector sat down at the #GivingInstitute Summer Symposium to discuss why the Filer Commission of the 1970s was the last broad and deep national research initiative to explore philanthropy in this country that had meaningful implications in policy. If you're unfamiliar now as I was then, check the Wikipedia page for The Filer Commission. It helped shape the current charitable deduction policy and so much more.
The reports from The Generosity Commission that will be discussed in this session help us understand how to recognize generosity within our communities in a more equitable and holistic way. It helps us understand how our organizations fit into the ecosystem of generosity. It helps us understand how we should talk about the work and what we might look for in future policy that helps bring about a better tomorrow through organizations like ours, designed to address the needs that government and profitable business can't or won't meet.
