Timely 🇬🇧- 🇯🇵 discussion on industrial strategy: interventions to boost productivity and growth, how to ensure innovation creates jobs and is sustainable, and sharing new data sets to inform tricky decisions on prioritisation. Thanks to the brilliant #SIN team at the British Embassy in Tokyo. #Industrialinnovation

🇬🇧🇯🇵 Strengthening UK-Japan ties through industrial innovation policy Last week, we had the privilege of being hosted at the British Embassy in #Tokyo for a dynamic workshop on industrial innovation policy. In collaboration with the British Embassy Tokyo, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge and the Babbage Policy Forum, this event united policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to: 🤝 Exchange international policy approaches to industrial innovation 💡 Share solutions for developing impactful strategies The dialogue was rich with insights on how both nations can stay competitive in today’s rapidly evolving landscape whilst rebuilding industrial capabilities 🚀 📢 As British Ambassador to Japan, Julia Longbottom, highlighted: “Japan and the UK are natural partners in addressing some of the complex challenges our world faces, and tackling innovation is at the heart of how we do this. This conversation was well timed to help both countries to build better innovation systems.” Key sessions throughout the day shed light on: ✅ Bridging the gap between scientific advancements and real-world industrial applications ✅ Identifying sectoral and technology priorities such as AI, biotechnology, and advanced materials for future growth ✅ Alternative data sources to drive forward-thinking industrial and innovation policies and uncover the true value of manufacturing A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers and attendees who contributed their expertise. We look forward to seeing how this event will shape UK-Japan collaborations going forward ✨ Dave SmithSir Mike Gregory Tim Minshall Carlos López-Gómez Margaret Tongue Sadao Nagaoka Susie Kitchens, Yukihiro Sato, Helen Caldwell, Gordon Attenborough Elizabeth Tofaris University of Cambridge IfM Engage Cambridge Industrial Innovation Policy Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Government Office for Science #IndustrialInnovation #STEM #EconomicPolicy #TechInnovation #Manufacturing #UKJapanPartnership #STIPolicy
