I had an interesting conversation about education yesterday—about how traditional education can sometimes focus on theory without purpose, leaving people demotivated and unexcited about learning. But if we simply show young learners a vision of what they can become and how they can contribute through the learning experience, they’re far more likely to commit to the process. Engaging youth in meaningful learning about food security and sustainability is both a challenge and a privilege. Reflecting on this insightful piece: https://lnkd.in/gYPCgpkc, I’ve distilled a few key takeaways that are shaping Agroath’s curriculum development. 👥 Start with Empowerment Youth don’t just need information—they need agency. At Agroath, we're trying to design experiences where students step into decision-makers' shoes, confronting real-world food security challenges. By letting them experiment and face the consequences of their choices, we aim to build their confidence as changemakers. 🧠 Make Learning Feel Real Gamification and storytelling aren’t just buzzwords—they’re essential tools for engagement. Whether it’s our simulation game or our workshops, we're trying to focus on connecting concepts like sustainability to relatable stories and interactive challenges. It’s about making every lesson feel relevant and impactful. 🪴 Balance Support with Complexity Youth thrive on challenges when they’re guided thoughtfully. Our curriculum gradually introduces complexity, starting with simple scenarios and progressing to multi-faceted issues like climate risks and trade disruptions. Feedback and reflection are integral to this journey. 🌏 Connect to a Bigger Purpose Learning becomes meaningful when tied to real-world goals. By linking Agroath’s activities to Singapore’s 30 by 30 vision, we help students see how their efforts align with national sustainability targets. It’s about turning classroom lessons into lifelong inspiration. This approach is helping us not only teach but also inspire. As Agroath grows, these principles guide us in creating experiences that equip youth with the knowledge and confidence to champion food security. What strategies do you use to engage youth in meaningful learning? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #FoodSecurity #YouthLearning #SustainabilityEducation #Agroath

A few weeks ago, we launched the first cohort of the Jobs in Agriculture training, and I’m thrilled by the impact it has made on the lives of young people across 22 countries, with 339 registered participants. As the Program Manager, this cohort was a tremendous learning experience for me and my team— Adegbola Adedotun, John Martins, and me. From planning, team coordination, content delivery, participant engagement, quality assurance, promotion, and reporting to gathering and implementing feedback, we worked diligently to ensure the program ran smoothly. For the past six weeks, we showed up every Monday and Friday at 4 PM GMT to deliver impactful sessions. Special thanks to Adegbola Adedotun for managing communication with the lecturers and for handling digital marketing. As we conclude with the bonus session on the 23rd, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to *God Almighty* and the CEO of Kitovu Technology Company for the opportunity to lead this remarkable initiative. If you are passionate about impacting the lives of young people and would love to lecture in one of the future cohorts, you can send an email to info@kitovu.com.ng. To participate as a student in future cohorts, you can send an email to indicate your interest to kitovujobsinagriculture@gmail.com. The last session on Monday is a bonus session and open to everyone to join. let me share with you my transformative experience gained in level 200 after participating in #Community-Based Experiential Learning (CoBEL) program put up by my school #UESD. This program is designed for second-year students transitioning to their third year. The program has impacted my career path as a Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability specialist. Here's how: 1. Water and Sanitation: I understood local water management practices and sanitation challenges which helped me appreciate the importance of clean water and proper sanitation in promoting public health and environmental sustainability. 2. Health: Engaging with community health initiatives and community health workers provided me with insights into grassroots health issues and the vital role of preventative health measures. This experience reinforced my commitment to integrating health and safety standards in environmental projects. 3.Agriculture: engaging with local farmers and visiting farms increased my interest in advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and eco-friendly farming methods in my professional endeavors as it underscore the connection between food security and environmental health. 4. Market Analysis: Conducting market analysis enabled me to comprehend the economic aspects of environmental sustainability, highlighting the need for viable and sustainable economic practices to support environmental initiatives. 5.History of the Community: Exploring the historical context of the communities we worked with enriched my understanding of the cultural and social dynamics that influence environmental and health practices. It has thought me the importance of considering historical and cultural factors in developing sustainable solutions. 6. Spatial Linkages: Analyzing spatial linkages between various aspects of the community taught me to approach environmental issues holistically, recognizing the interconnections between different elements of the ecosystem and human activities. i must say the hands-on experience and the multidisciplinary approach have equipped me with practical skills and a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between environmental factors and community well-being. It has empowered me to explore diverse designs and implement more effective and sustainable programs, impact in my professional field. I am grateful for this invaluable learning opportunity provided by my school #UESD

PBL Future Labs Initiative Takes Flight at Carmel College, Thornlands! We're thrilled to announce the implementation of an innovative AI x Project-Based Learning (PBL) program focusing on Australian food security and sustainable agriculture, aligned with the Australian Curriculum code AC9HG9K04 with PBL Future Labs. This initiative transforms traditional classroom learning into real-world experience by connecting students with local agricultural experts and businesses. The project was adapted from the future farming project that I created. Key Program Features: -Partnership with a sustainability advocate and social media educator who brings contemporary engagement strategies through TikTok -Collaboration with a local produce specialist who provides firsthand insights into food distribution systems -Student-led support projects benefiting four local farms, creating authentic learning opportunities -Curriculum integration examining challenges and solutions in Australian food production systems This program empowers students to engage directly with sustainable food production challenges while developing practical solutions that benefit our local agricultural community. The hands-on approach combines academic learning with real-world application, fostering a deeper understanding of food security issues. Special acknowledgment to Diana Platt and Melina Walton for their instrumental role in bringing this vision to life. Schools! Please get in touch with Thom Markham, Ph.D. or myself to find out more about how PBL can transform dry subjects into living and breathing projects!!!! If your school prefers a one-off coaching session, let's make it happen! That was a lot of fun! In today’s fast-evolving world, staying ahead requires more than just learning new skills. It’s about adopting a mindset of #LifelongLearning. That’s where the concept of #Heutagogy comes in. Unlike traditional approaches to education, heutagogy puts the learner in the driver’s seat, emphasizing self-directed learning and adaptability. At Scilife, we embrace this philosophy through initiatives like the Scilife Academy, designed to empower professionals in the #LifeSciences industry to take control of their own learning journeys. Heutagogy aligns perfectly with our mission of fostering continuous growth, not just within organizations, but within individuals themselves. Incorporating heutagogical principles into your professional development can help you stay flexible, resilient, and ahead of the curve. How are you taking charge of your learning journey?
