It’s currently #NetZeroWeek – the UK’s official national awareness week ♻️🌱🔋 Now in its fourth year, stakeholders are coming together in various ways to maintain focus on reaching net zero by 2050 – while ensuring Britain’s energy is both secure and affordable. Let's have a session recap from #Housing2024 last week In a lively and insightful session titled "Hot Property: Valuing Zero Bill Homes," experts from Octopus Energy and Platform Housing Group came together to discuss the transformative potential of zero bill homes. Emma Fletcher MRICS, Michael Cottrell, and Katie Gilmartin shared their experiences and visions for a sustainable, financially resilient future. Michael Cottrell kicked off the session by introducing the innovative concept of zero bill homes—properties equipped with (around 18-24) solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps to eliminate energy bills for up to ten years. Emma Fletcher MRICS highlighted the emerging evidence supporting the benefits of zero bill homes. Over a year of data now demonstrates that these homes not only reduce carbon footprints but also increase property values by 7-8%, as noted by CBRE. Katie Gilmartin from Platform Housing Group shared the social housing landlord perspective on the business case for zero bill homes. While acknowledging the challenges, she stressed the broader value these homes offer. In conclusion, the session underscored the exciting potential of zero bill homes to transform housing by eliminating energy bills, enhancing tenant well-being, and contributing to environmental sustainability. This is truly an idea whose time has come, offering a blueprint for a greener, more resilient future. Watch this space!
