Yesterday on World Health Day, we recognised the critical importance of health equity and access to quality healthcare for all. In South Africa, where healthcare disparities persist, it's imperative to amplify efforts towards universal health coverage. SDG 3, Good Health and Wellbeing aims to prevent needless suffering from preventable diseases and premature death by focusing on key targets that boost the health of a country's overall population. In order to achieve this goal, we must unite; from private sector ,to government structures and individuals; to empower communities and build resilience, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy life. 🌍💪 #WorldHealthDay #HealthForAll #GlobalHealth #SouthAfrica"

At Africa Health Access, we’re committed to turning the tide on global health challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has set back life expectancy by nearly a decade, revealed the recent UN report on the SDG3 , but we see this as a call to action. ☂ 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞: More than half the world lacks essential health services. We’re advocating for universal coverage to ensure health and well-being for all. 👩⚕️ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: A stark contrast in health worker density between low and high-income countries calls for a global redistribution of resources. 🤰 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡: With maternal mortality rates still high, we’re focusing on quality care to save lives. 👶 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝟓 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥: Progress has slowed, but we’re working to ensure no child is left behind. Building resilient health systems is crucial for ensuring that everyone, especially in low- and middle-income countries, has fair access to healthcare. Resilient systems can continue to provide care even during crises, reducing inequalities in access to essential health services. A stronger global health infrastructure benefits everyone, as no country is immune to health threats that can emerge from other parts of the world. Join us at #AHAIC2025 to discuss the intersection of climate and health, and to share insights and recommendations on shaping the future of health in Africa. We couldn't agree more with Dr. Raji Tajudeen. From our earliest innovations, Nexleaf's approach has centered on close partnerships with governments and health facilities in the places where ColdTrace is deployed, ensuring that our solutions are built for local needs and serve countries' long-term health goals. We're helping to make data-powered health systems a reality, and following the lead of African experts and initiatives is the key to achieving digitally transformed healthcare that works for all patients. #healthsystemstrengthening #digitaltransformation #techforgood #LusakaAgenda
"Global Health Initiatives must rally behind Africa-led efforts to strengthen health systems. Prioritizing primary health care, empowering the community health workforce, and boosting local manufacturing are essential steps to achieving our health goals." ~ Africa CDC Ag. 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐟 & 𝐉𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐲𝐚: #Healthcare When climate concerns are escalating, the role of CHWs in providing accessible care and adapting health systems to a changing environment has never been more critical. Boosting the CHW workforce is a sustainable solution to combatting both communicable diseases and climate-induced health emergencies. As the AU Summit approaches, the spotlight should be on African leaders to prioritise the development of an integrated professional community health workforce. READ MORE: https://ow.ly/9JSq50QAyn8

Did you know? #Africa, with only 3% of the world's health workers, bears a staggering 25% of the global disease burden. This shows the urgent need to prioritise #InvestingInHealthWorkers across the continent. By strengthening our healthcare workforce, we can fortify health systems, enhance access to quality care, and ultimately improve health outcomes for millions. Let's recognise the invaluable contributions of #healthworkers and commit to providing them with the resources, support, and respect they deserve. Let's build healthier, more resilient communities across Africa and beyond. #whwweek #safesupportedHealthWorkers

An important discussion for Africa to be engaged in, if countries on the continent are to develop the building blocks, commitment and political will needed to move towards achieving UHC.
We look forward to seeing the African Union, Africa CDC, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 and the European Commission take concrete actions towards achieving #UniversalHealthCoverage with primary health care as a foundation and build equitable and resilient health systems. #EUGlobalHealthStrategy #OneHealth

📢 New Study Alert! Published in PLOS ONE, "Health outcome convergence and the roles of public health financing and governance in Africa" dives into health disparities across African nations and their impact on SDG 3 and SDG 10. Reflecting on my discussion about the importance of considering social determinants in health outcomes measurement reporting in South Africa! 🇿🇦🏥 Understanding that health outcomes go beyond metrics because communities don't all begin their health journey from the same starting point. Especially in a diverse country like South Africa, which has gross inequality, we must acknowledge the profound impact of social determinants on health. Consider this scenario: a doctor working near a mine dump cares for patients facing compromised air quality, vastly different from an area with pristine air. Yet, traditional metrics might treat them equally, ignoring these critical contextual differences and their impact on outcomes for chronic respiratory conditions. Advocating for equity and justice in health outcomes reporting is essential for a fairer healthcare system. Transparency and embedding equity in healthcare incentives are crucial to achieving #HealthJustice. It's imperative to prioritise fairness and measure outcomes while addressing fundamental enablers of #HealthDisparities to support vulnerable communities effectively. #HealthEquity #EthicsInHealth #SouthAfrica

More than ever before, the world needs highly skilled health workers to expand access to high quality care. Today at #Concordia24, I had a great discussion on this topic with Vanessa Kerry, MD MSc from Seed Global Health. Together, we also announced a new partnership in Malawi to do just that – providing health professionals with the training and support they need to save the lives of mothers and children. Because we know that when you strengthen health systems, you strengthen communities and economies. You can read more here: https://lnkd.in/gWDFxXp2
