It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we, at the African Business Coalition for Health (ABCHealth), join the people of Tanzania 🇹🇿 the rest of Africa, and the global health community in mourning the passing of Dr. Faustine Ndugulile Dr. Ndugulile was not just a leader; he was a luminary whose dedication to advancing public health in Africa left an enduring legacy. His work as the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Regional Director was marked by a firm commitment to ensuring health equity, strengthening healthcare systems, and inspiring collaborative efforts that transcended borders. To his family, friends, colleagues, and the Parliament of Tanzania, we share in your grief and extend our deepest condolences. Dr. Ndugulile’s leadership, compassion, and selfless service have touched countless lives, and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those he served. As we remember and honor his extraordinary life, may we draw strength from his vision and continue the journey he so passionately championed — a healthier, stronger, and united Africa. We should be talking innovative vector management and not just integrated vector management – in complete agreement with Dr. Billingsley. We don’t have to use a blanket approach – we can be adaptable by being more targeted in the fight against malaria which will help us maximize the resources we have. – Rose Peter, Head-Vector Control SSA, Syngenta

It’s not always about getting more resources; it is also about using the resources we have wisely. Innovation is necessary – new ideas and new thinking must be accessed and deployed if we will win the fight against malaria. We have a method of control now but that’s for the now; what method will be deployed in the future especially considering the resistance mosquitoes are putting up across the continent. - Dr. Peter Billingsley , Founder – The Viral Narrative

Malaria vaccines are having impact but they do not address the critical issue of infection. The prevalence of infection in communities should be a key priority in the fight against malaria. We need a big push to have an anti-infection vaccine and this is a focus of the WHO. If we can prevent infection, we can prevent deaths. - Dr. Peter Billingsley , Founder, The Vital Narrative.

Community engagement is extremely important in integrated vector control (IVC) programs – it is critical when it comes to achieving sustainable impact over time because the existing social structure within communities play pivotal role in sustaining the effort of eliminating malaria. –Rhoda Robinson, Co-Founder - HACEY

“It would be impossible to completely eliminate malaria in Africa without an effective integrated vector control (IVC) program; and any IVC program that will succeed must have indoor residual spraying (IRS) as a key component” – Rose Peter , Head, Vector Control SSA, Syngenta
