I've been lucky to see just some of the important work geologists and earth scientists are doing within and beyond the mining industry in Australia. At this time, industry and policymakers are begging us to expand and invest in geology, but UoW is planning to cut its department.
Australian Earth Science communities are united and mobilised. We will not give up on preserving Earth Science in our universities to serve society and address the biggest challenges that we face. Here's a full page ad from the newspapers, along with a social media and advocacy campaign. Huge thanks to Dr Amber Jarrett for her superhuman efforts.

Deep space, deep Earth and deep sea are representatives of cutting-edge science. As one of the six basic sciences (mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, earth sciences and life sciences), earth science plays a huge role in the search, development and utilisation of natural resources (e.g. energy resources, water resources, land resources, etc.), and can also help human beings live in harmony with the natural environment and fight against it by mastering the laws of natural disasters.

Global crises continue to impact communities around the globe, and we risk losing generations of knowledge. By investing in scholars confined or displaced by violence, natural disasters, public health emergencies, or systemic injustice, we can preserve and uplift their lives and the numerous lives they touch. I am looking forward to meeting with our partners at the Scholar Rescue Fund Forum to discuss creating, sustaining, and expanding partnerships that will preserve human capital and empower communities throughout Europe. About the Forum: The IIE Scholar Rescue Fund Forum is a one-day conference that will convene a diverse set of more than 100 IIE-SRF stakeholders from Europe and around the world to highlight innovative partnerships and initiatives that are driving sustainable programming to support threatened and displaced scholars. Participants will learn from and be inspired by IIE-SRF partners across sectors and at the local, regional, and national levels whose efforts are enhancing existing support models and bridging geographic distances. We will also hear from IIE-SRF fellows and alumni who are impacting their home and host communities. #IIESRFForum24

📣 Webinar alert! 📺 26 June, 11:00am ET / 5:00pm CEST How can #faith actors engage in promoting just natural resource governance and sustainable development? What is their role as civil society actors in natural resources governance disputes in #LatinAmerica? The World Resources Institute and the Laudato Si' Research Institute (LSRI), Campion Hall, University of Oxford, in partnership with local researchers and communities in #Brazil, #Colombia, and #Mexico is organizing an online launch event of a new #report exploring how religious actors shape strategies to find peaceful resolutions to socio-environmental disputes in their regions. Our research shows that faith communities are important, yet often neglected, actors in socio-environmental disputes. The report analyses how these civil society actors bring a spiritual-symbolic dimension to their defence of human rights and territories, and how these inform unique strategies of defence. Join us in this webinar which will include a presentation of report findings, brief reflections from representatives of the faith, ecology and human rights sectors, and an engaging discussion with the audience on the stories and strategies found throughout our research. It's #RefugeeWeek, so we're looking back to a conversation with Prof Federico Faloppa who told us about the the impact of being named a University of Sanctuary. Over recent weeks, the Vice-Chancellor has committed to doubling our support for scholarships to help asylum seeker students; to find new ways to support research into the environmental impacts of war; and in seeking to strengthen our longstanding association with the Council for At-Risk Academics, CARA.
