We’re pleased to share that Faber Futures has been selected as one of the grantees of the UK Research and Innovation £11.5 million bioinnovation boost, aiming to enhance UK sustainable biomanufacturing. In partnership with Evolutor, a biomanufacturing start-up pioneering precision fermentation for advanced biomaterials, we will test and develop renewable feedstocks for our microbial dye technology. By tapping into industrial side streams, we aspire to create a circular and resilient value chain for textile dyeing and the wider fashion industry that opens up market participation through a decentralised bio-manufacturing model. This joint investment from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and Innovate UK has awarded 21 collaborative R&D projects from across industry and academia that embrace the biological potential through scalable as well as sustainable products and processes. We are very grateful for having received such a significant opportunity to contribute to the UK’s synergetic efforts driven towards restorative innovation and the 2050 net zero strategy. We will keep you updated on the progress of this work moving forward! #UKRI #biomanufacturing #sustainabledyes #MBEU #projectcoelicolor #synbio #syntheticbiology #bioeconomy #futures #biotechnology #technologyfutures #sustainablefutures #regenerativefutures #biodesign

Many thanks to prof. Andrea Dorigato for inviting me to talk at UniTrento DII about my research on how #greenchemistry can provide the #enablingtechnologies for #circulareconomy in materials!
Today at the UniTrento DII we had the opportunity to welcome Giovanni Perotto an esteemed expert from the Department of Nanophysics at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genova. He delivered a captivating #seminar on a topic at the forefront of innovation and #sustainability! 🌱 Seminar Title: "Can Green Chemistry Technologies Enable a New Circular Economy Paradigm for Food Byproducts?" In today's world, pursuing sustainable solutions is more crucial than ever, especially within #foodproduction and #wastemanagement. Giovanni Perotto's expertise in #polymer science and insights into #greenchemistry technologies promise to shed light on how we can harness innovation to address the pressing challenges of food waste and environmental sustainability. This seminar presents a unique opportunity for all of us to explore his research and explore the potential of a circular economy paradigm for food byproducts. #circulareconomy #foodwaste #researcher

Plastic is literally everywhere — from the depths of the oceans to Antarctic sea ice to the microscopic pieces within our bodies. Despite it needing 1,000 years to decompose, we rely on plastic because it is cheap to produce and indispensable to our economy, from packaging and transportation to #medicine and fashion. Regardless of how much we put in the blue recycling bin, plastic is expensive to collect and sort and mostly ends up in landfills, oceans and eventually groundwater and fish. So how do we eliminate or reduce the 1 trillion pounds of plastics that are manufactured every year worldwide? That’s the mission of the ASU Biodesign Institute Center for Sustainable Macromolecular Materials and Manufacturing at Arizona State University, which brings together #research in chemistry, chemical engineering, health sciences and mechanical #engineering to address the perplexing problem. “We’re striving to develop next-generation materials that are more sustainable, more renewable and more recyclable,” says Tim Long, director of the center within the Biodesign Institute, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary throughout 2024. Long came to ASU in 2020, building on a successful 20-year career at Virginia Tech, where he rose through the ranks, ultimately creating and directing the Macromolecules Innovation Institute. #ASU #ASUBiodesign #ASUResearch
