Wolverhampton has been selected as one of seven places to lead the charge as a net-zero neighbourhood, with the government investing £6.2 million to support the region's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2041.
Led by the West Midlands Combined Authority, early-stage planning will commence in Wolverhampton, alongside Birmingham, Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull, and Walsall. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the region's commitment to decarbonising homes and businesses, with innovative measures underway to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable living.
Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho recently visited Dudley, where an estate is poised to become one of the UK's pioneering carbon offsetting areas through retrofitting. With cutting-edge insulation, solar panels, and low carbon heating systems, these homes represent a glimpse into the future of sustainable living.
Mayor Andy Street highlighted the substantial investment already made in Dudley, with £1.6 million supporting efforts to create a more environmentally friendly community.
