We love the Committee for Perth. It’s a special place where our business, community, government, and education sectors can come together to explore, share, and build all the things that Perth needs to be truly great. On Friday, we were thrilled to join the launch of their newest discussion piece: Powering Perth: The path to global recognition - https://lnkd.in/gDFpHVNe In partnership with RSM, this report: 💠 Provides a roadmap of ideas and opportunities to build a united vision and plan for Perth. 💠 Calls for a stronger message to sell Perth to the world: we need to build our global identity. 💠 Highlights that Perth has the 13th largest economy in the world but rank 93rd for economic complexity: we need to diversify. 💠 Housing affordability is the big drain on our liveability: we must continue to build urban density. 💠 Nature is one of our greatest strengths and is at threat: we must accelerate our green transition. 💠 Reinforces the need for intentional leadership and collaboration to overcome these complex challenges: we must work altogether on this. The Perth region needs and deserves a clear visionary future. As Warwick Carter, Director of the Perth South West Metropolitan Alliance states: "You've got the social acceptance of Scandinavia without the cold, the entrepreneurship of the US without the polarising politics, the intellectual property rights of the EU but with a better environment - we have the best of everything in one location." We encourage you to download and share this report - it’s an important read for the future of our Perth Inner City. It's been five years since the York Central masterplan successfully gained planning consent, and it's a project that we at Aberfield are immensely proud to have played a key role in alongside our partners, Homes England, City of York Council, Network Rail and the National Railway Museum. We delivered the communications and engagement across the project from access consultations and the final masterplan 'Festival of York Central' consultation, through branding, stakeholder engagement, PR, social and issues management. It was also the start of our ongoing journey with transformational schemes in York, which includes working with York Minster (Chapter of York) on the adoption of its Neighbourhood Plan, the first of its kind to be used to map the future care of a cathedral or heritage estate, and the innovative regeneration of Coney Street Riverside by the Helmsley Group. We love working on projects like these for the lasting impact they deliver to communities. So it's great to see the plans coming forward for York Central from McLaren Property | Living | Regeneration and Arlington Real Estate and see how that masterplan is now becoming a physical reality in the city. It's now critical that strategic communications plays a further role in the next phase of York Central's development, so its importance and significance to the city, the region and the North isn't overlooked. If you want to learn more about the work we did on York Central you can see a case study here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/g4rpw9F6 #Regeneration #stakeholderengagement #publicrelations #builtenvironment
We were thrilled to welcome the Leader of City of York Council, Claire Douglas, and David Skaith, the first Mayor of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, to the York Central development site today. Their visit underscored the immense potential of this 45-hectare regeneration project site to bring a vibrant new dimension to our historic city. York Central is set to become a beacon of cultural and economic growth by transforming underused land into a vibrant and distinctive mix of: 🏡 residential neighbourhoods 🎨 cultural spaces 🌳 public realm 🏢 and a high-quality commercial core All in the heart of one of the UK’s desirable cities. This project will drive inward investment, create affordable housing and enhance transport connectivity - all of which are crucial for regional empowerment. Strong political leadership is crucial to realising this ambitious vision and we are grateful for the support and leadership of Claire and David as we work together to make York Central a reality. 🤝 #YorkCentral #YorkDevelopment #UrbanTransformation #CulturalGrowth #EconomicDevelopment #PoliticalLeadership #YorkshirePowerhouse

You can all stop sending this to me - I have seen it! 😁 Firstly I want to congratulate Steve Flory, I really do think he's the perfect choice for the role of chair of Ipswich Central. 👏 For those who don’t know him, Steve is a true local hero—a trusted businessman who’s spent decades quietly and consistently making a difference. Whether it’s serving as a governor in our schools or lending his time and expertise to help local businesses thrive, Steve has always embodied the best of Suffolk: practical solutions, deep community roots, and a determination to make things better. Having spoken to Steve, I’m have confidence that he understands both the shape and scale of the challenges ahead. More importantly, he’s ready to tackle them with pragmatic, everyday solutions that reflect the heart of our community. This is a pivotal moment for Ipswich Central—and for Suffolk. But let me also be clear: it’s going to take more than just new leadership. It’s going to take all of us. The reason I’ve poured my energy into initiatives like Innovate Suffolk, Empower Us, and the Young Enterprise Association (YEA) is simple. Two years ago, I experienced firsthand the harm caused by unaccountable systems when I faced two separate legal threats from Ipswich Central simply for advocating transparency and collaboration. It created financial and emotional distress that forced me to leave Suffolk for a time. Yet that challenging experience became the catalyst for the work I do today. BIDs (quangos) and similar organisations (like ALMOs) don't always serve communities well. As Against BID has taught me, unregulated models like these can block business growth and data sharing, limiting local authorities’ ability to plan effectively. Cronyism and control have held Ipswich back, but with a new chair and fresh mindset, we can start having open, honest conversations about what truly works. Look at the indie projects we've seen spin up to make positive change! Ipswich.love, Ipswich.co.uk, Longfields Circle to name just a few. Through Innovate Suffolk, Empower Us and Young Enterprise Association Suffolk we’re creating spaces for people to collaborate, learn, and grow. This is the kind of work that brings communities together, empowers individuals, and drives real progress. We’re ready to do our part, but Suffolk needs to do the work, too. That means: * Transparency: Show us the data. If something isn’t working, let’s fix it. * Accountability: Stop protecting positions and start delivering results. * Collaboration: No more gatekeeping. Let’s break down silos and share the load. Steve’s appointment is a chance for us to reset. I've been paying close attention to the work of the new Business Board and I have to say I am impressed. These are all opportunities to move past the old ways of doing things and build something better together. Here’s to a brighter future. 🌟 #Leadership #Innovation #SuffolkBusiness #CommunityDrivenChange #IntentionalCommunity
We're pleased to announce that Steve Flory will be the new Chair of Ipswich Central, from 1 January 2025. Steve, a lifelong resident of Ipswich and Managing Director of Hudson Group, brings with him over 40 years of private sector experience and a deep commitment to the town as a passionate supporter of local businesses and community champion. Steve says of his appointment: “I’m honoured to take on this role as Chair of Ipswich Central and look forward to working with our extensive professional network to strengthen the BID’s efforts and help Ipswich thrive.” Steve succeeds Terry Baxter, who steps down at the end of December after a decade as Chair. Terry will continue his role as Chief Executive at Inspire and has recently been appointed Chair of Suffolk New College. Reflecting on his tenure, Terry said: “After 10 years as Chair, now is the right time for fresh leadership. I wish Steve, Lee, and the entire Ipswich Central team every success as they continue delivering for our town.” Lee Walker, CEO of Ipswich Central, adds: “Steve’s passion for Ipswich and its business community is clear, and his leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our efforts for the benefit of the town." Steve echoes the collective focus of the team, stating: “Together, we can make Ipswich a safer, more welcoming place where people enjoy spending time. My goal is to bring the town back to the happier, vibrant place it deserves to be - for the benefit of businesses, residents, and visitors alike.” Read more about the appointment here: https://lnkd.in/eEkEFMEk

Our Directors Elaine Warwicker and Hayley Parker attended the event between the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire, and the University of Gloucestershire where David Owen shared the Gloucestershire economic growth strategy. It was great to understand the growth plans for the county for the next 25 years, with the 3 key priorities underpinning the achievement of the vision highlighted as: - Business innovation and growth - Continuing to build skills and employment - Transitioning to being carbon neutral Exciting plans ahead! And with big ambition comes the need to have not only a clear vision, but clear objectives to achieve it, as highlighted by Ruth Dooley who was a great chair for the event. This coupled with David’s “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time” comment when explaining the ambition for the county and taking it forward, along with the importance of alignment and collaboration so that all stakeholders achieve together, really resonated with us as it’s these key areas that underpin all of our work with clients. #ImprovingPerformanceTogether #GrowthStrategy #GloucestershireEconomicGrowthStrategy

The second stop on Anglian Water’s AMP8 engagement tour was Greater Lincolnshire this week and I had the privilege of supporting them again in presenting the challenges this will present in terms of planning and discussing the potential solutions. The water supply challenge for this part of the region is complex and unique: 🌽 81% of the area is farmed providing 10% of England’s farming output 🛠️ 50 million litres of non-potable water is supplied to industry on the Humber Bank 📈 12% predicted population growth by 2050 💧 41% less water available in 2050 due to climate change, abstraction reductions and population growth It makes for stark reading! £1 billion of focused investment is therefore planned over the next AMP period which will translate to a 482% increase in planning application submissions to the Greater Lincolnshire LPAs over the next 5 years. Collaboration and a thorough understanding of resource requirements is going to be the key to successfully delivering Anglian Water’s largest ever capital infrastructure programme.
This week, we were joined by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Authorities and key stakeholders across our region, at one of a series of events we're hosting to engage local planning authorities in our 2025 to 2030 business plans. Over the next five-year period, we're investing approximately £1billion into Greater Lincolnshire. In the opening keynote speech, our CEO Mark Thurston spoke about the importance of driving growth within the region and pledged to continue the collaborative working relationship we have with the local planning authorities. These events have been incredibly beneficial, and much was learnt on both sides. Collaboration and partnership will be vital over the next five years, as we prepare to deliver our largest ever capital infrastructure programme. We were excited to sponsor the Property Council of Australia: Plan Victoria: Making sure that it’s also a plan for Geelong event this week. Keynote speaker Lester Townsend, Department of Transport and Planning was joined by panellists Ali Wastie, City of Greater Geelong, and Michael Johnston, Committee for Geelong as they discussed the opportunities to be gained from the new Plan for Victoria for the Geelong region. There was also a call to action for individuals in the room and the wider community to have their say and get involved through the current engagement process. Key takeaways included: • Plan Victoria will seek to complement and build upon the existing suite of strategies and plans that the Geelong region has prepared in recent years; not just another strategy for the sake of it. • Plan Victoria will focus on action-oriented directions making it a fully implementable plan; transitioning from policy to action and seeking to address critical issues including those relating to housing affordability. • Panel discussions focused on the need for a nuanced approach to the Geelong region, and the potential need for a specific Geelong region focus within Plan Victoria. • Plan for Victoria will go live late 2024 and will be a ‘living document’.
