Belgian startup Powernaut has raised €2.4 million to advance decentralised energy grid solutions, tackling renewable energy challenges with its orchestration software for devices like solar panels, EVs, and batteries. The funding round was led by Revent, joined by Seedcamp, Pitchdrive | Early-stage VC 🚀, and Syndicate One. Powernaut, founded this year, is already managing over 200MW of decentralized assets and aims to expand its impact beyond Belgium. I’m so excited that we have started a series of posts about our startups from the current Deeptech Batch. Be sure to follow the Beamline Accelerator page on LinkedIn. What we publish there can be interesting to two groups of people: investors looking for the best #cleantech technologies and founders seeking opportunities to develop their startups. Today, we are sharing a short interview with enzum, a startup revolutionizing battery efficiency using advanced AI methods. I am proud to be part of a team that supports startups like enzum. Their approach to solving energy efficiency problems and integrating renewable energy sources is incredibly important for our future. Enzum’s AI-based solution optimizes battery life cycles, enhances battery health transparency, and maximizes energy trading revenues. Altogether, it sounds like magic. But that’s how truly innovative solutions should be characterized. Effective energy management is a key element in the transition to a sustainable energy future. According to BloombergNEF, the global capacity of installed energy storage systems is expected to grow to 411GW by 2030. That is 15 times the 27GW/56GWh of storage that was online at the end of 2021. Therefore, the importance of innovations like those offered by enzum is colossal! Hooray for the amazing female founders Mary Boryslawska and Ana Gerlich and the entire team working on the startup.

Ucaneo: German CO2 removal technology startup captures €6.75M seed funding Berlin-based climate tech startup Ucaneo has successfully raised €6.75M in seed funding to advance its cutting-edge direct air capture (DAC) technology. The funding round was led by prominent hardware and industrial energy investors, including Smart Energy Innovationsfonds (SEIF) by Energie 360° and IBB Ventures, with participation from Plug and Play Sustainability Fund and existing investors such as Grantham Environmental Trust and Carbon Removal Partners. This capital injection will enable Ucaneo to build one of Germany’s largest DAC testing facilities and develop its first industrial-scale product. Ucaneo’s co-founder and CEO, Florian Tiller, said: “This is a pivotal moment for our company. The growing recognition of the critical need for CO2 removal technologies, coupled with increasing regulatory support, positions Ucaneo at the forefront of this transformative sector. This funding round testifies our progress and potential, enabling us to quickly build one of the most cost-efficient, scalable and mass-producible Direct Air Capture systems, delivering a sustainable solution for CO2 removal or utilisation processes at any location and scale.” Innovative electrochemical technology inspired by nature Ucaneo’s breakthrough CO2 removal technology is modelled on the human lung’s ability to manage CO2, using an electrochemical process that operates at room temperature. This biomimetic approach allows the company to capture CO2 from the atmosphere, converting it into pure gas for industrial use. Their DAC system is highly energy-efficient and can operate seamlessly with renewable energy sources like solar and wind, offering a flexible, on-demand solution for CO2 removal. Commenting on the innovative system, Carla Glassl, Ucaneo’s co-founder and CTO, stated: “To scale carbon removal, we need accelerated hardware development!
