Atina Schutz from MCST delivered the opening remarks at the Getting to Zero Coalition's workshop on "Enabling a Just and Equitable Transition" for the maritime sector! She emphasized the importance of understanding what a just and equitable transition means for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the need for the international community to prioritize this. Atina stressed that SIDS and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) should define what this transition looks like, rather than having others decide for them. #JustTransition #MaritimeSector #SIDS #LDCs #Equity #SustainableFuture

What truly defines safety in a country? It’s not just lack of crime rates but a holistic approach that includes community well-being, environmental sustainability, and social justice. Reading about the safest countries gives us insight into how prioritizing these aspects creates thriving societies. As we reflect on safety, let’s consider how our environment plays a vital role. Take, for instance, those countries that are not just safe but also lead in sustainable practices. Communities there actively engage in protecting their surroundings, which enhances their overall quality of life. The lesson here is clear: prioritizing safety and sustainability is a shared responsibility. We can start small—by supporting local initiatives, reducing our carbon footprints, and amplifying marginalized voices in the conversation about safety and environmental justice. What steps are you taking in your community to promote a safer, greener future? Share your thoughts and let’s inspire each other! 🌍💚 https://lnkd.in/e_GQ5Ye3

It was an enriching opportunity to speak on Fleet Forum’s panel on Cross-Sectoral Partnerships in Fleet Management during this week’s AidEx on behalf of the Global Logistics Cluster S.’ Environmental Sustainability Team, WREC Coalition. Partnerships and coordination are key to ensuring environmentally sustainable supply chains and fleets. Every small action matters, and collectively all these seemingly small actions can have a significant positive impact on people and the planet. #WRECCoalition #SustainableSupplyChains #EnvironmentalSustainability
Our newest blog: Reflections from our Panel at AidEx: ‘Cross-Sector Partnerships in Fleet Management’ is online now. In a recent panel session hosted by Fleet Forum at AidEx - The Global Humanitarian Aid Community, representatives from Climate Action Accelerator, People in Need, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the WREC (Global Logistics Cluster S.) gathered to discuss role of partnerships in driving change. In this article, we highlight the topics from the live discussion: → The Importance of Commitment and Leadership → The Role of Donors and Private Sector Collaboration → Overcoming Barriers to Partnership → Models for Sustainable Fleet Management This panel session underscored the importance of partnerships, communication, and shared learning in achieving sustainability goals. As the humanitarian sector continues to face pressure to reduce its environmental impact, platforms like the Climate Action Accelarator, the WREC and Fleet Forum and collaborative efforts between UN, NGOs and donors will be key to driving meaningful change. Scroll through the article/report and you will see, among other things, mention of human (children’s) rights to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment. So happy to view this as this is something we #civilsociety groups worked closely with Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP to ensure it receives urgent attention, especially from the perspective of #intergenerational #equity. Something Executive Director of #unep Inger Andersen highlighted boldly. Thank you Zuhair Ahmed Kowshik, Kartik Verma for supporting Save the Children International and other #csos working on #childrensrights, #climatejustice to participate in #GYEA2024 held at the margins of #unea6. It was, for many, a major milestone as it was the first time children below 18 years (in fact, lot younger) actively participated, including as distinguished speakers, in the session on: children’s rights to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Believe decision-makers and policy-influencers have - at last - begun to notice that if we don’t do anything for not only #youth but #children (below 18 years) as well, we won’t have another generation which will walk our planet. Make both children and youth count! Gyubin Hwang Zuhair Ahmed Kowshik Kartik Verma
