"If you eat too much palm oil, you go get malaria. If you stay under sun for long time, you go get malaria. If you eat too much pork meat, you go get malaria. If you eat fast food too much, he fit give you malaria". These are some of the myth associated with the cause of malaria in some communities where malaria intervention was carried out. These myths are a major predisposing factor that has affected malaria control and prevention efforts in these communities. Every feeling of unwellness in these communities was associated with malaria. Whereas, these communities also lack access to WASH services which poses a major public health challenge. Meanwhile, as we celebrate World Malaria Day, there is need for increased sensitization on the causes as well as the prevention of malaria. MALARIA Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite. The parasite is spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. People who have malaria usually feel very sick with a high fever and shaking chills. To reduce malaria infections, world health programs distribute preventive drugs and insecticide-treated bed nets to protect people from mosquito bites. The World Health Organization has recommended a malaria vaccine for use in children who live in countries with high numbers of malaria cases. Protective clothing, bed nets and insecticides can protect you while traveling. You also can take preventive medicine before, during and after a trip to a high-risk area.
