As a CEO, entrepreneur, or someone just starting, it’s crucial to partner with and employ people who are passionate about what they do and step out of their way. This advice comes from Moses O Enenwali, CEO of Topship (YC W22) during an interview two years ago. Despite his passion for entrepreneurship, Moses O Enenwali initially faced setbacks. While in school, he tried several ventures like buying a restaurant and exploring entertainment, but was not successful. He then decided to focus on his education to make sure he didn’t waste his fees 🤭 But he didn’t give up. He eventually started Topship (YC W22) a platform that makes shipping easier for African businesses at flexible rates. He identified the challenges in import and export during COVID-19 in the logistics and supply chain industry and used tech to address these problems. Here are 4 valuable lessons Moses shared for upcoming African CEOs and entrepreneurs: 1. Be Resourceful: Life is unpredictable, and you can’t do everything yourself. Partner with people who are passionate about their work and let them excel in their areas of expertise. 2. Hire the Best: Surround yourself with talented people and step out of their way. Give them the space to innovate, and you'll see great results. 3. Stay Persistent: Success as a CEO isn’t about technical skills alone. What matters is your perseverance and belief in your vision. 4. The Layover Test: Moses O Enenwali talked about how he uses the “layover test” in his hiring processes—he picks the person he’d be comfortable spending hours with during a layover at the airport. He shared “Look for qualities like kindness, curiosity, and cultural fit. The first ten people you hire will shape your company’s culture significantly.” There was something Moses O Enenwali also emphasised on and that is the need to master effective and open communication as this is key for anyone aspiring to be a leader and changemaker. I learned about Moses and his entrepreneurial journey from Ndani TV. Which of these valuable lessons resonates most with you? 👇🏾 Hey, Yayra here! Host of The Yayra Show and a corporate event host & moderator. I’m dedicated to empowering African youths—today’s leaders and tomorrow’s changemakers—to create their own success stories. Such a good community you’re founding!! Reminded me how I love small, young, diverse, and educated communities, where our starting point is being driven genuinely toward our ideals, and the need (which I heard from a lot of our failures) is actually to be more pragmatic and grounded in reality and history . It’s really special in our world to have everyone care deeply about their life’s work, and, importantly, grieve deeply when we fail. #AllRoadsLeadToB2BSaaS
It’s not often you get to a see a bunch of failed entrepreneurs in a room, talking about how they failed - much less Asians. This week, I had the chance to moderate a panel with Asian Founders Club and Starcycle, where we cut through the typical success stories to focus on the tougher, overlooked moments our panelists Jaclyn Siu, Akshaya D., and Jason Patel faced - things like losing an investment, choosing the wrong market, and having to tell your team you’re shutting down. In a world where success stories are typically only things that get highlighted, this panel on failure was so refreshing. It’s a reminder that failure can be just as important to learn from as success, and that you’re never alone in the journey. Huge thank you to our panelists for their vulnerability, Welcome To Chinatown for the space, and MìLà and Jumo for providing our guests with delicious refreshments! #nyc #founders #failure #entrepreneurship #asian

Let me tell you one of the most critical things that I learned along my entrepreneurship journey: the big difference between being an “entrepreneur” and having an “entrepreneurial mindset.” As a business person, being an entrepreneur is about taking action and making things happen, while having an entrepreneurial mindset is about strategic thinking. It’s about allowing that strategic thinking to guide you through challenges, failures, and crises. When my business faced a major setback, it wasn’t just “being an entrepreneur” that helped me rebuild and reinvent it to the level it’s at now. It was the ability to say “yes” and take action that made all the difference. This Sunday at HIBS Africa, I will share the formula that changed the succcess path with CEOs and business leaders, from entry to emerging to established businesses. You don’t have to sit and struggle when you can take the knowledge, implement it, and elevate it from any business situation. You don’t want to miss this. See you in the room on Sunday, at 4pm!

At the heart of Comrades Market is the belief in peer-to-peer mentorship and the power of accountability partnerships. My own journey as an entrepreneur was profoundly shaped by having worked in a startup led by an exceptional entrepreneur Rose Kananu, PMP®, CP3P-Foundation, Civil Engineer Seeing her navigate challenges in the extremely volatile startup environment and make decisions that were crucial for growth while at it inspired in me a mindset of courage in the face of uncertainities and a deep desire to deliver a great product. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to offer that same support system to the entrepreneurs we work with. We’re not just offering business coaching or digital marketing support—we’re creating accountability partnerships where entrepreneurs can lean on one another for guidance, encouragement, and advice. This sense of community and collaboration is key. When entrepreneurs help each other, they learn together and grow stronger as a collective. Join us on this journey as we continue to build and empower the next generation of business leaders. https://lnkd.in/d4SUZYJx

🏆🔥 Just wrapped up an exhilarating entrepreneurial event organized by Vanijya - The Commerce Society of Aryabhatta College, and I'm thrilled to have secured the 1st rank! 🥇 It was a true roller coaster ride! 🎢 It kicked off with a spicy blend of puzzles and quizzes that ignited our problem-solving skills. 🧩 But that was just the warm-up! Our inner entrepreneurs were put to the test with real-world business challenges. 💼 The grand finale? A fierce case study analysis where we had to craft strategies to revive once-thriving companies. Talk about a thrilling challenge! 🚀 Throughout the event, our teamwork, adaptability, and business acumen were pushed to new heights. It was an absolute blast! 🎉 Not only did I have an amazing time, but I also honed skills like critical thinking, strategic planning, and pitching innovative ideas. 💡 Experiences like these are invaluable for any aspiring entrepreneur. Feeling pumped and ready to take on new entrepreneurial adventures! 🔥
