🌍 Did you know that the United Nations Joint SDG Fund has received $352 million in total deposits to date—a 23% increase in contributions from 2023 to 2024? 🙌🏽 This year alone, we’re launching 125 new joint programmes across transformative sectors such as Digital Transformation, Food Systems, Job Creation, Social Protection, Localization, Energy, and Integrated Policy. By October, 67 Joint Programmes have already been approved, with the remaining 58 on track for approval by Q4 2024. 🚀 As part of the kick-off for #UNGA, I had the privilege of making a tiny contribution to a panel at Goals House, where we discussed the Sustainable Development Goals at a Turning Point. The discussion featured insights from the EU, Germany, and São Tomé and Príncipe, covering topics like Germany’s support for digital transformation and food systems, the EU’s commitment to helping partner countries mobilize resources, and São Tomé’s innovative Climate and Environment Fund and Conservation Fund for protected areas, created through a bilateral debt swap. ➡️ We also had a special film screening at Goals House, featuring a new series on the Sustainable Development Goals at a Turning Point, with Enass Abo-Hamed MBE, Sabrina Elba, Forest Whitaker, Gemma Styles, Maggie Baird, Philippe Cousteau, and Van Jones, showcasing how 🤝 partnerships 🤝 and individual action 💪 can shape our 🌍 collective future. 🎬 Watch the series here https://lnkd.in/eiRWugrJ, which highlights the urgent shifts needed in energy, climate, biodiversity, education, food systems, and social protection. A huge thank you to the United Nations Joint SDG Fund team for their unwavering dedication to making a difference. Together, we’re driving progress toward achieving the #SDGs! 💪💡 #UNJointSDGFund #TurningPoint #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #Innovation #ClimateAction #DigitalTransformation #FoodSystems #Partnerships #BlendedFinance #GlobalGoals
🎬 We were thrilled to host the premiere of the Sustainable Development Goals at a #TurningPoint film series at Goals House! The event brought together representatives from 🇸🇹 São Tomé and Príncipe, 🇩🇪 Germany, and the 🇪🇺 European Commission, who engaged in an inspiring conversation on the urgent need for action to tackle global challenges. Discussions centered around how innovative partnerships can accelerate progress on the #SDGs, especially in critical areas such as climate action, social protection, and digital transformation. 📢 News from today at the #MonacoBlueInitiative: 🌍 Geneviève Pons-Deladrière participated this morning in the event ‘Towards an #IPOS – The Gateaway Between Ocean Knowledge and Policy Action’ where she gave her insights on what type of organisation would maximise the chances of the future International Panel on Ocean Sustainability (IPOS) to be set before June 2025, in time for UNOC3 as well as its ability to deliver useful recommendations. 💡 Our Director General, underlining how difficult it would be to set up an intergovernmental organisation in such a short time and how problematic it would be to obtain rapid consensus on relevant recommendations in such an organisation, proposed as an alternative to take the expert group of the EU #StarfishMission 2030 as a model. 💡 An international expert group could be set at global level. Criteria for the selection of the members will have to be defined rapidly according to the IPOS needs, to facilitate the selection work of the UNSG. 💡 This was received by the audience as a promising way to establish the IPOS in time for the 2025 #UNOC3 Conference! Ocean science and governance are at the heart of the Starfish Mission which seeks to restore our ocean and waters’ health and develop our knowledge. The Starfish Mission global vocation has already been embraced by the #BizerteDeclaration on international ocean governance. Let’s work together to drive global policy action for a sustainable ocean! 🤝 #IPOS #OceanSustainability #UNOC3

Tomorrow is too late…but what about today? 🌍 We all know that when it comes to climate action, tomorrow is too late. But that is true of our own lives too. We only get one go around the carousel of life, to find our calling and make a difference. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of delivering the opening keynote at the Green Vision Summit and Expo (GVSE) 2024 in Malta. Unlike typical conferences, GVSE was a gathering of passionate, intelligent green leaders forming connections that could transform our world. Now this audience didn’t need a lecture about the climate science. They know how dire the situation is. What they needed was a dash of hope. So, I thought about my personal journey of coming to climate. I shared five stories that highlight the urgency of climate action and the power of immediate change. Each illustrates a different moment that taught me that tomorrow is too late. Each gave me more hope. The good news is that today is not too late, for us or the planet. Today is just in time. 📺 Watch the full keynote here 🔗 👇 https://lnkd.in/es-AX4TK Subscribe for more from the GVSE over the coming weeks. There is a lot riding on us collectively getting nature positive right, especially in the light of global recent studies again showing the precipitous decline in nature. But I refuse to give up hope and lose momentum and one thing that helps me to stat positive (pun fully intended) is to also reflect on the opportunities we have and the things we get right. Watch below for some positive inspiration from global leaders in this space.
🌿 Bianca Nijhof - Anthesis Global Nature Lead and Mark Gough, CEO of Capitals Coalition, reflect on the Global Nature Positive Summit held in Sydney last week. They pick up on the unique approach taken by Australia, with Indigenous leaders given a central role in the event, setting the tone for the summit. This inclusion emphasised the integration of climate, nature, and human elements, paving the way for more holistic decision-making. As they discuss future possibilities, Australia is seen as a potential test bed for innovative nature-positive solutions. #NaturePositive #IndigenousLeadership #Sustainability #GlobalNaturePostitiveSummit #NatureAndClimate Anthesis Group Marnie Telfer Betsy Hickman Michaela Young https://lnkd.in/ggVyWXKR

📣Important update on PPP Climate & Mission Zero Coalition activity: PPP Climate is a part of the UK events and public-private sector convening organisation, Public Policy Projects (PPP). In March 2023, PPP launched Mission Zero Coalition as a separate company to build momentum from the Mission Zero report, authored and led by the former Energy and Clean Growth Minister, The Rt Hon Chris Skidmore OBE MP. The Coalition provided an independent platform for exchanging insights, experiences and ideas on Net Zero policy development for the UK. July 2024 marked both five years since the UK signed its net zero commitment into law and the conclusion of the intended body of work of Mission Zero Coalition. The work of the Coalition now continues as part of the wider climate portfolio covered by PPP Climate. PPP Climate specialises in bringing together senior leaders and practitioners in the public and private sectors to find realistic solutions to the most pressing issues relating to climate change. As an independent ‘broker’ of effective public-private sector collaboration, we help businesses to grow their profile in the local and national public sectors, and in the international diplomat community. Through our round tables, live events and reports we support local authorities, national government, and third party organisations with practical recommendations on implementing policy to drive positive climate change outcomes for local populations. We are celebrating again at the Scottish Climate Intelligence Service as our local authority user group just completed step three on their SCIS journey 🎉 Part of the support we provide for our local authority partners is through monthly workshops. With 93% of local authorities in attendance, this month's workshop, 'Tailor to Your Local Authority', was delivered by multiple SCIS team members across the Improvement Service and Edinburgh Climate Change Institute. This session centred on ClimateView, and explored how our local authority users can tailor different aspects of the platform to better fit their area's context and needs. Following an introduction from Judi Kilgallon, and recap activity from Sarah Bryant, Morgan Watkins introduced Transition Elements, the cornerstone of the ClimateView platform. More on this tomorrow 👀 Michael Seaword then provided a demonstration on how to find, add and remove transition elements in the platform, and participants were then given an opportunity to hop onto the platform and find those most useful for their local authority. We then jumped into the theory of change underlying Transition Elements with Joanna Keel, exploring their link to climate interventions: the actions, policies and projects local authorities can take to reach their Net Zero targets. Finally, Sarah Bissett explored how the platform can be made more context-specific by modifying socio-economic parameters such as area scaling characteristics and resource production assumptions. Changing the quality of the ingredients in the ClimateView recipe ensures models are just right for users, giving decision-makers the best tools to take effective, just and equitable climate action. A massive thank you to all of our local authority partners for their engagement and active participation with the SCIS programme so far - we literally couldn't do it without you 🙌 (Edited to thank ClimateView for providing this swish graphic for us to share with you all!) #NetZero #climatechange #climatecrisis #climateaction #carbonmanagement #emissionsreduction #localgovernment #Scotland #collaboration #cooperation #ClimateView #SCIS
