🔋 3 Things to Consider When Buying Sealed Batteries 🔋 When it comes to choosing sealed batteries for your solar system, it's essential to make an informed decision. Here are three key factors to keep in mind: 1️⃣ Type of Sealed Battery: There are two main types of sealed batteries to consider—Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and Gel Cell. AGM batteries are valve-regulated and sealed, offering advantages such as no need for water replenishment and cleaner connector cables. They are also less hazardous for shipping and can withstand deep discharges without freezing. On the other hand, Gel Cell batteries, while also sealed, can be less forgiving to hard charges and require careful maintenance to avoid drying out. 2️⃣ Charging Requirements: Regardless of the type you choose, remember that lead-acid batteries, including AGM and Gel, should be fully charged at least once every ten days. This means you’ll need to ensure your charging system is appropriately sized to handle the battery capacity. Investing in a large battery without a compatible charging system can lead to premature battery failure. 3️⃣ Cost Considerations: AGM batteries typically cost about a third more than their wet cell counterparts but offer enhanced performance and convenience. While Gel Cell batteries may have a dedicated following, they require more meticulous care and may not be the best fit for everyone.
