September Recap: A month full of innovation, collaboration, and meaningful connections across various sectors What a journey this month has been - just reflecting on a September filled with innovation, collaboration, and new connections: 🔹 AI Insights in Montréal: on short notice I jumped on a plane to accompany our delegation trip to Montréal after organising the trip for weeks. Alongside brilliant minds from academia, industry and local development agencies, we explored the forefront of AI at McGill University and Concordia University, and participated in the ALL IN Conference. We left with so many ideas for future collaborations and brought home valuable insights for the Ruhr region’s tech ecosystem. 🔹 Investor Tour 2024: This year's Investor Tour Ruhr took representatives from the real estate industry on five bus tours to 14 cities across the Ruhr. This established format we organise with DIRK LEUTBECHER and STONY Real Estate Capital GmbH & Co. KG isn't about internationalisation but exploring interesting development areas in the Ruhr regions. I supported our team on the Duisburg tour: from Mercator-Quartier to the former Galeria Department Store, and Torhaus Nord. It was truly exciting to see the potential we observed in the city center of Duisburg. 🔹 Scaling to Germany: Together with our partner DutchBasecamp, we welcomed seven Dutch startups eager to expand into the German market. From insightful presentations and 1:1 matchings to roundtable discussions, these startups connected with experts and partners from the Ruhr. It was a pleasure to witness such dynamic exchanges, and our rooftop networking event "Get in Touch with the Dutch" was the perfect touch. However, September wasn’t solely focused on external collaborations; we also prioritized internal innovation. Our cross-innovation workshop sparked fresh ideas on how we can enhance collaboration within our teams by applying cross-sector strategies. And as AI has not only been the main topic of our Montréal trip but is also an internal driver in our AI User Lab and other initiatives it was great to gain new inspiration on the first day of Essen Digitalisiert The best part of these experiences? The people. Meeting new connections, reconnecting with old colleagues, and building on relationships, whether in a conference hall, a seminar room, a bus or on a rooftop — it's always about the people. I’m really looking forward to what's next – and 🤫 I can’t wait for my upcoming vacation in October to recharge and gather new energy #metropoleruhr #wenndannhier #internationalisation #innovation #AI #collaboration #networking

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐦 Today, we will meet Ervin and Hildegunn at the Innovation Norway Stockholm office. 💼 Ervin is a senior advisor who has been with the office for almost three years. He has experience in marketing, business development, and coaching start-ups and scale-ups, primarily within internationalization, as well as innovation and EU funding. Hildegunn has previous experience from Sopra Steria, where she worked as a graduate consultant. Together with Cecilia, they form the trade team at our office. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐧? I joined the Stockholm office as an advisor in April, and since then, I’ve learned so much. In this role, I have the privilege of working with a diverse range of Norwegian companies across various sectors, all eager to explore opportunities in the Swedish market. Together with our office manager, Robert, I’ll be placing a special focus on the energy sector, particularly in areas where Norwegian companies can make a significant impact on Sweden's green transition, such as offshore wind and carbon capture and storage (CCS). 𝐄𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞? Like my colleagues, I help Norwegian companies with various aspects of their export journey and their interest in the Swedish market, assisting them in taking important steps in their expansion to Sweden. I work with clients from different industries, but I have a special responsibility for the healthcare sector. So, if you are a Norwegian healthtech or life science company with an interest in Sweden, you'll probably get in touch with me at some point. Right now, I’m planning a new Global Growth program focused on the Swedish market and smart hospitals. 📚 Ervin studied business at Linnaeus University and has been a head coach for a floorball team. Hildegunn completed her master’s in engineering at KTH last year and has also taken courses in psychology. They are the newest members of the export team and have already contributed new ideas and solutions. 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐧, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐦? Outdoors! Whether I’m going for a quick walk or leisurely strolling through the city on weekends, I absolutely love the beautiful blend of city life and nature in Stockholm. Of course, I always make time to stop at one of the cozy fika spots or charming wine bars along the way. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐄𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧? I spend most of my time with my family, where our two-year-old son is the main attraction. But if I get some time for myself, I have a deep interest in sports, especially in the club AIK, of which I am an active member. I'm also a season ticket holder for both the men's and women's football teams and try to catch AIK in other sports like floorball, ice hockey, handball, and more.

Attending Slush in Helsinki is like stepping into the beating heart of innovation. The energy is high, and the air is thick with ambition and opportunity. From the moment you arrive, it’s a whirlwind of networking, matchmaking and idea-sharing. This year, the experience lived up to all expectations. The matchmaking area, with over 200 tables, was truly the event’s hub. The process was smooth and efficient, with a digital system assigning table numbers for each meeting, while the friendly staff guided me to my destinations. However, in such a fast-paced environment, the 25-minute meeting slots passed in the blink of an eye—just enough time to make an impression, but not long enough to go into a full pitch. To make the most of this, I kept my pitch clear and concise, relying heavily on visuals to get key points across quickly. Each conversation allowed me to refine my pitch, making it more focused and easier to present. As they say, practice makes perfect. One thing that really stood out this year was the interest from the oil, steel and chemical industries in CO2 conversion technology. It was encouraging to see these traditionally conservative sectors actively seeking sustainable solutions. This shift in focus shows there is real potential for innovation and positive change. Of course, the next challenge is turning these promising conversations into actual projects, but the energy in these discussions was undeniably optimistic. A personal highlight was the Dutch Pavilion, conveniently located just around the corner. Not only did it offer a great base for connecting with the Dutch delegation, but it also acted as a platform for introductions to individuals actively seeking to invest in climate tech startups. Thanks to the Pavilion’s efforts, I was able to connect with two new, exciting prospects. The sense of community and mutual support within the Dutch delegation was inspiring, and it reinforced the importance of solidarity in driving innovation forward. Looking back on these two days, I feel genuinely energized by the outcomes. Slush offers an incredible opportunity for anyone—whether you’re a founder, investor, or innovator—to connect with like-minded individuals and explore the latest trends in tech and sustainability. For entrepreneurs thinking about attending, my advice is simple: Go. Prepare your pitch, bring your enthusiasm, and fully immerse yourself in the experience. As for me, I’m already looking forward to next year. #Slush2024 #Innovation #Networking #PulsedPowerPlasma #justtransitionfund KapiteinLabs , Eindhoven University of Technology 🇪🇺 Medegefinancierd door de Europese Unie 🇪🇺 en Techport en #Kansenvoorwest Netherlands Enterprise Agency

Which cities will be the winners of the future? In Sønderborg, Denmark, they've laid out a plan. The ambition is clear: 77,000 inhabitants by 2030. This week, they held a conference to set the direction, and Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and I had the pleasure of speaking. Which cities will emerge as powerhouses in the future, and which will fade away? Who will win the favor of businesses and become magnets for global talent? This battle for the future is fierce, impacting cities as centers for education and innovation. In my work with CIFS, I encountered many cities aspiring to be more than they are now. Many simply dream of maintaining the status quo in a future world of significant demographic shifts. But Sønderborg is not content with just that. Together with local partners like Danfoss and other great stakeholders, they've analyzed possible futures. So, they're actively working towards a future where the city is an international lighthouse for innovation and education. A place where people will want to move to, where businesses will establish themselves, and where students from around the world will flock for their education. Thanks to GOTO Sønderborg for hosting a truly ambitious conference. Kudos to the other speakers for enlightening us, and special thanks to Tanja Maria Have for setting a higher bar than I can remember for a similar Nordic event for a city with the same ambitions in many years. It was nothing short of super inspiring.
