Somewhere around 2011-2012, Starbucks retrained all store employees on beverage production. The training went like this: our trainer gave me 6 single drink orders to make, in whatever order I wanted. I was timed. Then I received the step by step training before being given the same list of drinks to make. This time, they were made in a specific order with step by step instructions regarding when to put syrup in the cup, when to steam milk, when to pull the espresso from the machine, and so on. Once again, I was timed. This second time, however, over a minute and a half was shaved from my total production time. From a business standpoint, it was incredible. The training turned us into a well-oiled machine. Starbucks employees were able to move faster, and more efficiently, resulting in a faster speed of service as a direct result of micromanaging the actual steps involved in creating beverages. Increased speed of service happens with increased speed of the people providing the service, which makes total sense. Where my problem lies is knowing just how much Starbucks grew monetarily as a result of higher production, while not providing a higher wage to the actual producers themselves. The physical demands of the job are easily three times greater than when I was hired in December 2005. While I get paid very well to do my job, as do my coworkers, the lack of additional compensation when our production value is raised, is a point of contention for me. That said, I’ll be going into this Siren Craft idea with an open mind.
We’re making it easier for our partners (employees) to do what they do best: Craft delicious beverages, connect with customers, and deliver a familiar Starbucks Experience. The new Siren Craft System is an evolution of how we operate our stores – designed for partners, by partners – to help capture the customer demand we have by reducing wait times and celebrating the craft of our baristas each and every day. We’re already live in more than 1,160 U.S. stores – and are on track to scale nationally in the U.S. and in Canada by the end of July. Change is hard…. When people do not understand the WHY behind a change. Sometimes, change makes so much sense that people don’t question why it’s occurring. They question why is hasn’t occurred before. Case in point: National Taco Day 🌮🌮🌮 Per a USA Today report: “The National Day Calendar changed National Taco Day to a Tuesday beginning this year. The holiday will be recognized on a Tuesday in October this year, and will always fall on a Tuesday going forward.” So, adjust calendars. If you celebrate, National Taco Day has shifted from Oct 4 to Tuesday, Oct 1 this year. It will now forever be on a Tuesday. Taco Tuesday.

Getting a quick lunch at apparently the only KFC/A&W in Boise - Further proof that if you want to be just even minimally successful in CX, hire people who care about others and possess a sense of urgency. No other requirements needed. For your growing business needs or maybe just your hunger, avoid big monopolistic competition, avoid providers that force you to play by their rules, and defintely avoid the restaurant on the corner of Chinden and Eagle Rd.

How can this be better than McDonald’s? I ate 5 in the last week… Let us analyze together. This place: 1- Makes delicious burgers → Great Product. 2- Delivers it in 5 mins → Convenient (time). 3- Located on my street → Accessibility. Why do I chose it over McDonald's? 1- I like it more than McDonald's burgers (Product) 2- Delivery time: 5 mins vs. 40 mins (Time) Remember that this burger place opened 4 weeks ago. Sometimes having a great product is all you need to actually succeed. I always say: "Great Product comes before Great Marketing" Thank you for reading this on a Friday! P.S. what is your favorite underrated street food place and why do you think they succeeded?

Cheers to the Wins: Big, Small, and Everything in Between 🥂 The restaurant industry is a fast-paced, demanding world, and it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle. But one thing I’ve learned is that taking the time to celebrate our wins—big and small—makes all the difference. Whether it’s pulling off a flawless Friday night service, launching a new dish that guests love, or simply getting through a tough shift with our heads held high, these are the moments that deserve recognition. While the big milestones are always exciting, it’s the small victories that really keep your team motivated. Maybe it’s a team members cocktail recipe being featured or the way we all come together during a busy rush. These moments might seem minor, but they’re the foundation of our success. Celebrating these achievements isn’t just about giving ourselves a pat on the back—it’s about recognizing the hard work and dedication that each member of the team brings to the table. Every effort matters, and acknowledging that helps us stay connected and focused on our collective goals. Let’s keep celebrating every success, because each one brings us closer to where we want to be! #TeamWins #CelebrateTheSuccess #RestaurantIndustry #Hospitality #StrongerTogether

McDonalds & Burger King 🍔👑 For someone who isn’t very familiar with either, they’re indistinguishable. It’s like saying Coke vs. Pepsi. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of these companies, you’ll take one or the other, it’s no big deal at a restaurant if you ask for Pepsi and they say “Is Coke okay?” Now look at your own life. The projects you’re working on, the skills you have, the way you interact with others, your career as a whole and ask yourself one question. Are you a Pepsi that’s replaceable with a Coke? If you are, it’s time to rethink everything. The way you interact with people, the skills you learn, the books you read, the clubs you join, the clubs YOU START (start one). The adventures you go on, the museums you visit, and everything beyond. You have to be irreplaceable. You have to have such a unique perspective, so many quirky ideas, such diversified interests, and such odd friendships that when someone tells a co-worker “Oh, we don’t have a Megan, is a Kelly okay?” They scream HELL NO, we need the Megan, she’s the ONLY ONE for this.

Why there's always a Burger King next to a McDonald's? Wouldn't it make more sense to open in a place with no competition so they can get more customers? Competitors like restaurants, clothing stores or gas stations seem to always open really close to each other, but... Why? Let's say we've got two hot dog vendors (A & B) perfectly placed at 600m from each other. A gets all the customers on the left and B all on the right, making it 50% - 50%. Next day B moves to the middle. Now he gets all the customers on the right (50%) + some customers from the left (25%) making it 75% What can A do to solve this situation? Moving to the middle as well. That way now they're back to 50%-50%. And since they can't get any closer or move anywhere else, they are in perfect balance. That's why there's always a Burger King close to a McDonald's. _ Did you already know this? Repost it so others can find out why it happens!

How To Turn a Tough Week Into a Big Win 🌟 Last month, one of our customers had a week where nothing went right. Reservations were down, a shipment was delayed, and even the weather kept people home. It felt like they were fighting an uphill battle. Instead of panicking, they tried something new: we ran a flash promotion offering free desserts for two nights. The result? Packed tables, happy guests, and some of the best reviews we’ve received all year. That experience reminded us that challenges can spark creativity and growth. What’s the most creative solution you’ve found to turn a tough week around? #RestaurantStories #CreativeSolutions #GuestEngagement #TurnItAround

🐾 Small gestures can make a big impact. This is my view when I bring home a Starbucks Pup Cup for Zoey. When companies go the extra mile, even in small ways, it shows customers they're valued and appreciated. So, what's your version of a Pup Cup? #gsp #rescuepup #totalfoodie
