🌱 Sustainable food production from waste heat: A project to be proud of! At Taks Handling Systems, we're proud to contribute to RegEnergy Frövi project Sweden—an innovative initiative focused on sustainable food production using residual waste heat from a nearby paper factory. 🌍 What makes this project unique? ✅ Energy efficiency: Using waste heat from a paper factory in a semi-closed greenhouse. ✅ Virus prevention and enhanced food safety: Thanks to a UV tunnel. ✅ Multifunctional packaging line: Specifically developed for the Swedish market, featuring a smart weighing and packing line with checkweigher, flowpacker, camera system and special equipment for handling challenging crates. Flexibility and innovation go hand in hand, allowing us to provide solutions that meet specific market needs. This collaboration demonstrates how technology and sustainability can elevate food production to new heights! Tech innovation is central to helping prevent food waste 👨💻 ➡ ♻ It was encouraging to read about OSY Group’s flagship technology trials getting under way in four continents 🗺 The tech aims to extend the shelf-life of fresh produce 🥗 and reduce food waste and is one of multiple examples of innovative tech 💡 from the UK and Ireland that has the potential to chip away at the food waste mountain 🌄 OSY has struck a deal with 21 partners in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore and India for commercial testing projects of an antimicrobial packaging coating called Xtend that enables food items to stay fresh for longer. It leaves microscopic pins on packaging surfaces which, in turn, puncture and kill microbes and therefore slow down the natural spoiling process that affects what’s inside 💭 With roughly one-third of all food produced going to waste which contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions, it is a noble move by OSY. The trials are being conducted by grocers 🛒, packaging firms, exporters 🏢 and other companies 🏭 across the food chain, with a focus on fruit and veg, meat, fish, poultry, bread and fresh flowers 🐟 🥩 🍗 🥕 🍏 🍞 💐 Good luck to them we say ☘ . The problems companies like OSY (and everyone at Gander globally) are trying to solve need addressing from all angles, and it will take an ecosystem of like-minded organisations to help make inroads and make positive change. It’s one of the reasons we have signed waste prevention not-for-profit WRAP's Courtauld Commitment 2030. Signatories are all trying to make food and drink production more sustainable 💚 , and grouping together in such a way enables collaborative action across the entire UK food chain that will give us a chance of meeting the industry’s and, indeed, the nation’s environmental goals 🚀 Gander Australia Gander Brasil #TechInnovation #RetailTech #Technology #Innovation #FoodWasteReduction #Sustainable #PositiveChange #CollaborativeAction #EnvironmentalGoals #PreventFoodWaste #RaiseAwareness #SupportInnovation #Communication

Happy World Environment Day! As a food processing consultant, we work in an industry that has a significant impact on the environment. Today, we want to focus on some positive changes we can make in the food processing sector to ensure a healthier planet for our food: Minimizing Food Waste: Did you know that a third of all food produced globally goes to waste? In processing plants, we can implement better inventory management, optimize portion control, and explore ways to utilize "ugly" produce. Sustainable Packaging: Excessive packaging is a major environmental burden. We can explore recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable options to reduce our footprint. Energy Efficiency: Food processing requires a lot of energy. By optimizing equipment, using renewable energy sources, and implementing water-saving measures, we can significantly reduce our environmental impact. These are just a few steps, but they can make a big difference. Let's all work together to ensure a sustainable and healthy food system for generations to come! #WorldEnvironmentDay #FoodProcessing #SustainableFood #FreshOVeg

Our team members Rose Riley and Giorgio Piracci attended the Innovation Forum Future of Food and Beverage conference in Amsterdam last week. Reflecting on the discussions the had, here are some key takeaways: 🌴 Underpricing the Environment: We need economically viable solutions to transition to sustainable agriculture. Funding options include: - Increasing consumer food costs, conflicting with affordable nutrition for all. - Lowering margins for manufacturers, challenging due to already thin margins. - Exploiting efficiencies through pre-competitive collaboration, requiring unprecedented corporate trust. - Redirecting agricultural subsidies towards climate-friendly foods, risking current livelihoods. 🏭 Decarbonization: We can't wait for the perfect approach to decarbonization. Urgent action, inspired by others, and fostering collaboration and innovation is crucial to meet 2030 goals. 🌽 End Food Waste: With 1/3 of food wasted and 1 in 10 people hungry, we must rethink food use and distribution. New markets for by-products and consumer education on waste reduction are essential. Unused food should go to animal feed or soil enrichment, not landfill. ⚖ Regulations & Compliance: Upcoming regulations like EUDR signal serious governmental action on sustainability. However, they may shift supply chains from high-risk areas and divert funds from proactive interventions to compliance. Balancing these priorities is vital to protect both communities and landscapes. 🌾 Climate Impact on Yields: Climate change has caused significant drops in crop yields. Regenerative agriculture is now a critical risk mitigation tool, not just a positive change initiative. To discuss these topics and how we can support your business in understanding and mitigating its ESG impacts, contact us on info@onepeterson.com #Sustainability #Agriculture #ClimateChange #FoodWaste #RegenerativeAgriculture #Collaboration #Innovation #Decarbonization #Sustainablesupplychain #Sustainablefood

Enabling Circular Economies is an outcome I am working to deliver with #web3 technology and ethos. The critical driver of circular economies is data, data that #AI will use to generate enormous accretive value. Open-source, shared ownership, transparent, rule, and merit-based governance are critical sources of value, sustainability, and growth accelerators. ALL surplus and waste is lost margin. The job to be done by Data Value Network (DVNet), web3, AI and our partners is to massively reduce the cost of coordination to match surplus supply to unmet demand. The mission starts with Food...
"A circular food system is a sustainable approach to food production and consumption that minimizes waste and optimizes the use of resources. This concept borrows from natural systems where there is no waste. The idea is to reuse, recycle, or upcycle materials wherever possible, ensuring that the bin becomes the last resort." - Innovation Origins Creating a circular economy will start with understanding the movement of materials, value, information, and data through the economic network. DVNet believes this data has enormous value, value that is enhanced through data ownership, sharing, and governance. A data common that shares the value creation generated from member contributions to provide the economic stimulus to drive a virtuous cycle. Every waste or surplus has a market, visibility, and incentives will match that surplus to demand. Excited to build a DVN (data value network) around our Food Rescue partner FoodMesh with our technology partners Dectec.io & SingularityNET. https://lnkd.in/gtcKewFE
