You won’t get a job until you get your permanent residency… Don’t share personal stories on LinkedIn…Resume has to be 1 page…. You must have a High Distinction average to secure a job. When it comes to job search, it’s easy to get bogged down by these “rules” that you might hear far too often. People often make the mistake of thinking that just because 1 particular thing worked for them, that’s the only way to secure a job. But in reality there's no one size fits all solutions. We have diverse experiences and for every ‘x’ that worked for one person, there’s a ‘y’ that worked for another, and ‘z’ for a third person. So no, there’s no perfect resume because no 2 Hiring Managers want the exact same thing. Yes, there are thousands of international students who secure a job on a temporary visa. Yes, there are people who will love your stories on LinkedIn and find them inspiring. Yes, the length of your resume can vary based on your accomplishments and experiences that are relevant to the role. And yes there are thousands of students who secure a job with a credit average.

Can I be honest for a second? I've been on the job hunt for a while now - almost two years - and have been waiting it out in a hospitality role. I've applied to countless roles in various sectors and have had a handful of interviews that I'm incredibly grateful for as my skills have improved with each one...but none have led anywhere. And the truth is... I never thought it would be this difficult. I knew I would have to work hard. I knew that it might take some time. I knew that there would be plenty of bumps along the way. But I thought I'd be a bit closer by now. And even though I know this also comes down to the amount of effort I put in, there are so many seemingly insurmountable circumstances beyond my control that have affected my job search. It can be draining to constantly receive either automatic rejections, no response after an interview or simply no response at all. Not to mention the stress of being an international graduate in the UK knowing my visa is very quickly coming to an end. I know I'll get there eventually, that everything will work out and I just need to keep at it. But sometimes it just all feels like a bit too much. If you're going through the same thing, just know you're not alone. ps. Here's a pic of some Tulips I bought the other day to get my flat ready for Spring 💐 #internationalgraduate #internationalstudent #UKimmigration #UKjobhunt #jobhunt

This article focuses on better national workforce and careers strategy. It highlights the value and impact of quality career conversations conducted by trained career development professionals. In workplaces, managers are on the front line for these conversations, often without specific career development tools and training. Future focused career conversations boost engagement, retention, and workplace well-being. They are an inexpensive and powerful tool that boost productivity and culture. Let's make sure your managers know how to be great career advisors. Let me know if we should connect. It'll be good for your people and great for your business results.
Many people have an annual physical checkup, but have you ever thought about an annual career checkup? ✅ Annual career checkups are among numerous recommendations in “Hidden Sector, Hidden Talent: Mapping Canada’s Career Development Sector,” our seminal report about the size and impact of Canada’s career development sector. The fact that career checkups aren’t common is “a very fundamental example of how Canada has a fail-first model of career development,” says Lisa Taylor, Challenge Factory’s President. 📢 But with 40,000-60,000 core career development professionals in Canada, there’s so much opportunity to advance career checkups and other supports for all Canadians.
